If it isn't therapy and it isn't coaching, why do so many busy leaders, clinicians, and caregivers walk out of a single listening session feeling lighter than they have in years?
What is professional listening, and how is it different from therapy or coaching? Jessica Ferrer, LMT, defines it clearly: no diagnosis, no treatment plan, no advice agenda, no performance goals. Just skilled, attentive, confidential presence. Learn who it is for, what a session feels like, how it mirrors somatic bodywork, and when to see a therapist instead.

The Wise Practitioner is the podcast that bridges mainstream medicine and complementary healing. It explores how a wise practitioner brings together knowledge, experience, and perspective within the larger matrix of health and wellness.
Your host, Jessica N. Ferrer, LMT, works at both the table and the chair. She is an advanced massage and bodywork practitioner, manual therapist, and professional listener, with clients from newborns to centenarians. Her clinical work spans craniosacral, visceral, and neural manipulation, oncology and orthopedic massage, sports therapy, and hypermobility-informed bodywork. She is also a former college athlete and coach, which gives her a firsthand understanding of both performance and recovery.
Each episode brings new ideas meant to spark curiosity. Some are practical and educational, covering pain, posture, movement, stress, recovery, and the questions clients rarely ask out loud. Some draw on real stories from the treatment room and the listening chair. Others step back to look at the bigger picture: what's changing in massage therapy and manual therapy, where the profession is headed, and how mainstream and holistic care can work together instead of side by side. Is research catching up with what skilled hands already know? What does truly integrative care look like? Are trends like massage competitions raising the standard or missing the point? From time to time, Jessica invites guests such as physicians, nurses, bodyworkers, authors, athletes, and other experts to explore these questions with her.
This show is for massage therapists and fellow practitioners, physicians and nurses, wellness professionals, clients and patients, and anyone curious about the art and science of integrative wellness. Wisdom here isn't about having every answer. It comes from paying close attention, staying humble, refusing to let our worlds and minds get smaller, and doing the work with care.
Pull up a chair. You're in good hands.
