Acoustic guitarist Joseph Strider has covered a lot of musical ground in his career thus far. From boy soprano in school choirs, to playing with a cover band, Strider has spent the years developing his own unique style, a style that fits in no established genre and can best be described as modern Indigenous alternative

Gabriel Ayala travels throughout the United States and other countries serving as an advocate for education for all youth while instilling his values of living a traditional lifestyle while abstaining from Alcohol, Drug and Tobacco. Gabriel believes in leading our children in the right direction through his philosophy, “Love your children, Honor your elders, and Respect your women”. Gabriel wants to share the gift of music with as many people and show children that they can become whatever they dream.

Kelly Montijo (pronounced Mont –ee –ho) Fink, singer /“song catcher” (Mexican, Apache, & Spanish) was born in California but now resides in the Midwest.  She has been singing for as long as she can remember & has performed everything from musical theater, pop, Italian opera, and madrigal arrangements, to mariachi music & Native drum songs.

Kelly considers herself a “song catcher” rather than a song writer.  She rarely sits down to write a song, but rather observes, hears, and sees truth & then allows the words and melodies flow from there.  Many of her songs are birthed from prayer, dreams, visions, and personal revelations.

In 2010 Kelly released her second CD titled “Songs of War and Victory – overcoming the battles we face” where she tackles such themes as identity, complacency, restoration, healing, & overcoming adverse circumstance.  She collaborated with other like-minded artists on this project such as Jan Michael Looking Wolf, Sean Murphy (formerly of “Fighter”), Pete Raine (The 100’s), Doug Johnson (formerly of “Leven” & “Tragedy Verses”), the Zach & Sarah band, as well as others, demonstrating that we can not win life’s battles alone.

In 2011, Kelly (along with 20 other native ladies) were awarded the Native American Music Award for “Best Compilation CD” for their work on “The Color of Hope”, an album Kelly c0-produced and contributed to musically.

Kelly’s heart is to see & help people walk in freedom in every aspect of their lives.

his extended family in the world, he shares his

JJ Kent is a multi-cultural speaker and educator for various schools and universities around the US and Canada on the Native American customs of the Oglala Lakota (also known as the "Sioux"). He is a professional university facilitator.  JJ is also a gifted storyteller in the ancient ways of the Lakota.  Holding the audience spellbound, he weaves into the rich tones of story, join us tonight as JJ Kent becomes Teacher for us all on...Feather Speaks

Tonight Michael Joseph joins Joe! and accordingly, his Acoustic music, is a representation of one of

the cultural cross-sections of America. A mixed heritage ranging from Native American

(Blackfeet), to the farmers of Kentucky, to the Appalachian hills of West Virginia.

Michael never set out to define these roots in his music; however, as he has learned, our

roots are inevitable. “By embracing these roots, you help keep your ancestors alive.”

This past Friday afternoon, the Wolf and I had the pleasure and honor to sit with Robert and Dawn Mirabal, talking of family values, culture and life in general.  To listen to them speak, hearing the respect and love that they carry for each other and the way of life, was just a glimmer onto their lives that the outside world doesn’t always get to see.  They are modern day Warriors working to teach and continue a culture that is loosing momentum in the modern world that surrounds us all.

Aside from all the awards that Robert has won, and the impact that he had on the world with “Music From a Painted Cave”, Robert and Dawn continue to help create positive change within their own community, by keeping it simple.  From making moccasins in a traditional manner, to farming the very land they live on, the Mirabel’s live sharing life with their beautiful daughters, and keeping both their native culture and language alive.
