Luke gives us one of the most detailed portraits of Jesus in the New Testament.

He gives us names, places, witnesses, conversations, parables, meals, miracles, and moments that show us not only what Jesus did but the heart behind it.

And one thing keeps showing up again and again:

Jesus notices people.

The poor.

The outsider.

The sinner.

The person with the bad reputation.

The person everybody else walks past.

In EP342 of Walking Through the Bible Together, we walk through Luke and meet the Saviour who came looking for the lost.

We talk about the Good Samaritan, Mary and Martha, the prodigal son, the older brother, Zacchaeus, the criminal on the cross, the road to Emmaus, and one of the clearest summaries of Jesus’ mission:

“The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Luke reminds us that grace does not mean staying lost.

Grace is how lost people get home.

And if we’ve already been found, maybe we should leave the porch light on for somebody else.

After about a month away, The Wooden Cricket is back and honestly, Mark might be the perfect Gospel to come back with.

Mark moves fast. Jesus arrives, the Kingdom of God is announced, disciples are called, the sick are healed, storms obey Him, sins are forgiven, and one question keeps getting bigger:

Who is Jesus?

Eventually, Jesus makes it personal:

“Who do you say that I am?”

In EP341 of Walking Through the Bible Together, we walk through the Gospel of Mark and meet the King who turned the world’s idea of greatness upside down the Son of Man who came not to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.

I also talk a little about the wild summer that pulled me away from the microphone, two unexpected messages that arrived on the exact day I finally sat down to record again, reconnecting with my cousin Jason after years apart, and the reminder that we rarely know how God might use the small things we put in His hands.

The King who served.

Follow Me.

Let your whole life prove that God is good.

Four hundred years of silence.

Generations waited. Empires rose and fell. The prophets had spoken, the promises had been made, and God’s people were still waiting for their Messiah.

And then…

THE SILENCE BREAKS.

After travelling through all 39 books of the Old Testament together, we’ve finally arrived in Matthew—and Jesus Christ has come.

Today we meet Emmanuel: God with us. We watch John the Baptist prepare the way, hear Jesus call ordinary fishermen to follow Him, sit with His teaching about mercy, forgiveness and being a light in the darkness, and face the question every one of us eventually has to answer:

Who do YOU say Jesus is?

Then we follow our King to the cross…

And discover that the cross isn’t the end.

The tomb is empty.
Jesus Christ is alive.
The King has come.

And now He sends us out to tell the world.

Welcome to the New Testament, friends.

Jesus Christ is God. Jesus Christ is Saviour. Jesus Christ is Lord.

Keep being a bright light in a dark place.

We made it.

After journeying from Genesis through kings, judges, poets, prophets, victories, failures, exile, restoration, promises and prophecies, we’ve reached the final book of the Old Testament: Malachi.

And what a way to finish.

Malachi reminds God’s people of His love, calls them back from half-hearted worship, and then leaves them looking toward the horizon:

A messenger is coming.
The Lord is coming.
Get ready.

Then the prophetic voice grows quiet.

But God hasn’t disappeared. He hasn’t forgotten His promises. The world is simply waiting for the moment when the Word becomes flesh.

In EP339, we read the entire book of Malachi and look back over an Old Testament that has been pointing us toward Jesus Christ from the very beginning.

Tomorrow, we turn the page.

Tomorrow, we begin the New Testament.

Tomorrow… Matthew.

The waiting is almost over.
