Welcome to the first episode in our series The Books of Kings. Our host for this series is Dr. Nathan Lovell from George Whitefield College (GWC). Nathan is part of the faculty at GWC and is also the Director of Research. Here is a rundown of our first episode: Israel’s great king David lies frail and weak, while his sons fight for power. What will become of the kingdom that he built? What will become of God’s promise to build an eternal kingdom through him?
We come, at last, to the final section of the introduction. Again and again, we have been told about two very different ways to live: the way of wisdom, and the way of folly. We receive two seemingly identical (but actually very different!) invitations from Lady Wisdom and Lady Folly. This section of Proverbs concludes by forcing the reader to make a decision: which way will we choose? In Proverbs 8, we read the most majestic section in the entire book. Lady Wisdom tells us about herself, and reveals all her wonderful attributes: insight, righteousness, sound judgement and power. She is indispensable to leadership and social order, because she is the fundamental principle of creation. If God used Lady Wisdom in building creation, don’t you think that we will need her when we seek to build our lives? In this episode we get a great insight, a case study, if you like, from Proverbs 7 on how temptation works. Temptation has been the downfall of many a person and so we hope that as you watch this and engage with God's Word you will get a better understanding of it.
