Today, we're looking at one of the most profound statements Jesus made as a twelve-year-old boy. In Luke 2:49, Jesus declared, "I must be about My Father's business."

I have a question for you. Have you ever gone from celebrating one of the greatest victories of your life to facing another problem almost immediately?

One moment, you are praising God because the door opened, the prayer was answered, the relationship was restored, or the burden was lifted. But before you have time to enjoy the victory, another challenge appears.

That is exactly what happens to the children of Israel.

In Exodus 14, God miraculously divides the Red Sea. In the beginning of Exodus 15, Israel is singing, shouting, and celebrating. Miriam has the tambourine, the people are dancing, and everybody is praising God for what He has done.

This episode is for anybody who has ever felt trapped, pressured, surrounded, or unsure of what to do next. God’s Word reminds us that sometimes faith means standing still, and sometimes faith means stepping forward. But in every season, deliverance belongs to the Lord.

Have you ever been in a place where it felt like you had no good options? You could not go forward, you could not go backward, and everything around you seemed to be closing in. That is exactly where Israel finds themselves in this passage. God has brought them out of Egypt, but now they are standing near the Red Sea, and Pharaoh’s army is coming behind them.

But here is the good news: what looked like a trap was actually a setup. God had not lost control. God had not abandoned His people. God was positioning them for a miracle they could not produce on their own.

Have you ever felt like God was taking you the long way? You prayed for direction, but the road seemed longer than expected. You believed God was bringing you out, but the path forward felt confusing. You thought deliverance would mean immediate arrival, but instead, God led you into a season of waiting, stretching, and learning how to trust Him step by step.

That is exactly where Israel finds themselves in this passage. God has brought them out of Egypt, but He does not take them by the shortest route. He leads them the long way through the wilderness. And at first glance, it may look like a detour, but in God’s hands, the detour becomes development.

Israel has just come out of Egypt. God has delivered them with a mighty hand, brought them through the night of Passover, and released them from the grip of Pharaoh. But before they get too far down the road, God gives them instructions. He tells them to remember, to consecrate, to teach their children, and to live in a way that never forgets who brought them out. That tells us something important: deliverance is not the end of obedience; deliverance is the reason for obedience.

Pressure has a way of exposing things. It reveals what is real, what is shaky, what is surface, and what is settled. In this passage, Israel has come through a night of intense pressure, a night of judgment, deliverance, and divine protection. But after God brings them out, He also makes it clear that not everybody belongs to Him in the same way. This text shows us that pressure does not just push people emotionally. It also reveals identity spiritually.

In Exodus 12:33–40, the children of Israel were under intense pressure, but that pressure was not there to destroy them. It was the very thing God used to move them out of bondage and into freedom. What felt overwhelming was really the hand of God making sure they did not stay where they no longer belonged.

Have you noticed how pressure doesn’t just test you—it reveals you? When the heat turns up, you don’t always rise to your potential… you usually drop to what you truly practice. Pressure has a way of speeding up what we’ve been delaying, exposing what we’ve been avoiding, and forcing us to choose what we really believe.

In Exodus 12, the children of Israel are still in Egypt. They are still under bondage. They are still living under the weight of oppression. But in the middle of all that pressure, God does not tell them to panic — He tells them to prepare. Get the lamb ready. Apply the blood. Remove the leaven. Get your clothes on. Keep your shoes on your feet. Put your staff in your hand. In other words, when pressure rises, readiness matters.
