Easter evening.  Some things to consider from this passage:

• Look at verse 19.  Like the apostles, where and from what do you hide?  Notice Jesus' disposition.  What brings peace?
• What do English translations often miss in verse 23?
• Is it right that Thomas gets a bad reputation from this account?  What is a more accurate nickname than "Doubting Thomas"?  

The Resurrection.  What is interesting about verb tenses in John?  Note all the details about Peter and John's arrival in verses 6-8.  Also, what is the significance of the burial clothes lying there in verse 7?  And what important thing does Jesus tell Mary Magdalene that we also need to know?

Jesus is crucified.  In verse 24, note the specificity of the prophesies, so there can be no doubt that this is the Messiah.  Verses 26-27 provide evidence of how Jesus takes care of all things: when He has the weight of all sin bearing down on Him, He is caring for His mother.  And what does "It is finished," in verse 30 mean?

Jesus is beaten and delivered to be crucified.  Here are some things to consider:

• What is the context we know from the other Gospels that shed light on Pilate's actions?
• Look at verse 15.  Doesn't this summarize well what the religious leaders were all about?
• In verse 18, what is the significance of Jesus being crucified in the midst of sinners?

Jesus is on trial.  Here are some highlights of the text:

• vs. 20--Note how Jesus was always careful to teach openly.  Why?
• vs. 28--Consider the magnitude of this hypocricy of the religious leaders.  
• vs. 34--Jesus asks the best questions.
• vs. 36--Jesus' kingdom is not of this world.  What is important about the word order Jesus uses?  How should we ponder this?
• vs. 38--The devil's primary target.  How do we see this in our present day?
• vs. 40--What does the choosing of Barabbas over Jesus indicate?
