Alex Duong (March 20, 1984 – March 28, 2026) was an American comedian and television actor originally from Dallas, Texas. Active in the entertainment industry from 2006 to 2024, he became a well-known figure in the Los Angeles stand-up circuit and appeared in various television and film projects.He was best recognized for his recurring role as Sonny Le, a criminal and gang leader, in the long-running police procedural series Blue Bloods. Beyond this role, his television credits included guest appearances on programs such as Everybody Hates Chris, The Young and the Restless, 90210, Mad TV, Death Valley, Dexter, and Pretty Little Liars. He also played the recurring character of Genghis Khan in the comedy series The Cost of Living. On the big screen, he appeared in films including Formosa Betrayed, Ghetto Physics, The Beyond, and Sideways for Attention.As a comedian, Duong built a strong reputation through his stand-up performances and his involvement in Jeff Ross Presents Roast Battle. He was highly regarded by his peers in the comedy community; when he fell ill, colleagues such as Ronny Chieng and Atsuko Okatsuka organized benefit shows to support him and his family.In early 2025, Duong was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of soft tissue cancer. The condition specifically affected his eye, leading to persistent headaches and eventually causing vision loss in one eye. He underwent intensive treatment, including multiple rounds of medical care and a major surgery to remove a malignant growth behind his eye.Duong died of septic shock on March 28, 2026, at the age of 42. He passed away at the Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California, surrounded by friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Christina Duong, and their daughter, Everest.
