"The Scandal" - our latest music video - is a bit of a departure for us - vulnerable, honest and unique, maybe even a little bit defiant - in this episode of the WRD Experience, Kailah and Zach talk about what inspired us to take a risk and release this song in the first place...
We talk a lot about the "free gift" of forgiveness and freedom available through Jesus - we're passionate about this message and about sharing it with the world. But in the Bible, Jesus talks a lot about the COST of following Him. In John 14:15 He says, “If you love me, you will keep my commands.” It’s a highly controversial message in today’s culture: Christianity without obedience to Jesus’ words…. just isn’t authentic Christianity.
Essentially, we’re talking about a “free gift” that will ultimately cost everything. In this episode of the WRD experience, we tackle this challenging subject and explain why we absolutely believe that the cost of following Jesus is completely worth it.
Sooo... we recently had the opportunity of interviewing one of our favorite humans on the planet: Ravelie-Shanda Derilus - we feel that the wisdom and perspective she brings to the table is priceless and we are so excited to share it with all of you.
In this episode of the WRD Experience, Shanda shares some deep, life-changing wisdom about the true source of life and love, what "rest" and "humility" really mean, and the secret to real freedom.
Also, the weird chemistry that Shanda and Sierra share is entertaining to say the least - we hope you enjoy it as much as we do...
The last several months have truly been a profound season of re-calibration for us.
From March to June, in the midst of the upheaval that has affected the entire world, we found ourselves unexpectedly stranded overseas - shows were cancelled or postponed, plans were put on hold…
And we found ourselves CHALLENGED to continue in our mission to share the love of Jesus - even if it meant finding new ways to do it during a time of global crisis.
We began to brainstorm - we wrote new music and started a podcast…
AND we discovered the rugged, beautiful coastline of Biarritz, France, and decided to start filming.
Our goal was to use the windswept cliffs of France as a backdrop to tell some of the heartfelt musical stories from our latest album.
On FRIDAY, JULY 17th, we released our first “story,” the music video for “COME BACK” one of favorite songs from our latest album, “Through It.”
You can watch the video HERE...
Or listen the the song on Spotify HERE...
In this episode, Zach sits down with Sierra to explore the heart behind this vulnerable song...
Struggling with anxiety? You are most definitely not alone: the world as a whole is in an undeniable state of upheaval...
Which is why we felt it was crucial to have this conversation right now. In fact, if you're battling worry and fear, this may be one of the most important messages you hear this year - God is offering us peace, but it won't come without a fight.
Join WRD's Kailah and Zach for an in-depth look at the very real war for personal peace being waged in our lives right now - along with practical strategies for experiencing the freedom from fear that is available in Jesus.
For the last few days we've been watching reports of the racial turmoil in the United States from across the ocean here in France, and it's been weighing heavily on our hearts. So much pain - so much brokenness: this issue is affecting many people that we love deeply.
So we decided to have a public conversation about it - to record a podcast about Jesus’ heart for reconciliation.
...And after recording the episode, we left the studio with tears in our eyes.
We don’t claim to have all the answers, but in the midst of the turmoil, we’re seeing a glimmer of hope for the country we call home - we've been noticing strong voices of love and reconciliation speaking out in the Christian church - voices from many different races honoring God and each other, speaking honestly about deep hurts without sacrificing love and respect.
And to us it looks like a "light on a hill" - a visible demonstration of the supernatural love of Jesus in action.
We believe that the love, life and message Jesus is still the answer for every instance of brokenness, injustice and pain in the world - Jesus loves you, friends, and we hope this episode is an encouragement to you no matter what you're facing today.
In this episode, Sierra interviews Zach about his surprising backstory, several of his unique passions, his past struggles with performance anxiety, and the ways God has transformed his life over the last several years...
In this episode, Kailah and Zach have an honest conversation in simple language about what it means to be a Jesus-follower in today's modern world - and address some of the struggles and misconceptions surrounding this loaded topic.
So… as this episode is published, we’ve been on lockdown quarantine here in Biarritz, France for nearly a month, and we’re guessing this is the time when a lot of us are beginning to feel a little… stir crazy.
So we decided it would be the perfect time to share some of our wild travel stories from last year. 2019 was a big year for us - we traveled to 12 nations on 5 continents and had some pretty incredible experiences.
We buckled down and picked our top 5 favorite countries (sort of) and spent some time discussing why these experiences stood out to us, and why we’d recommend them for anyone looking for an adventure.
We also spent some time discussing why we’re convinced that following Jesus is the exact OPPOSITE of boring.
Our hope is that these stories would encourage you, remind you of life outside of your house, and inspire you to dream of your next crazy adventure.
God bless you, friends, and thank you for sharing the journey with us!
Three months ago, we decided to launch a podcast. At the time we had no idea that things would look like they do right now - in the space of a few short weeks, the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19 has radically changed the way "normal life" looks for most of us.
Immediately after traveling to France in mid-March 2020 to speak at an international school, the US enacted a travel ban, and our return flights were cancelled. We found ourselves on lockdown quarantine with our family in a beautiful area.
Despite the fact that we were missing most of our recording gear, we felt that it was more important than ever to begin an honest conversation with the world about what it means to live as a follower of Jesus, especially in times of crisis and uncertainty.
In this episode, we try to be honest about fear, hope, and compassion in this unprecedented time. Thanks and God bless you, friends!
(Quick note: at approx 20:20, Sierra references the Bible verse 1 Corinthians 10:13, which literally reads: “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted,he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” Some Bible translations read “God will not let you be tested beyond your strength.”
Because Sierra actually says “God won’t give you more than you can handle,” we felt it was important to clarify the exact actual wording so as not to misrepresent what the Bible says. We also believe that the overall message of this clip is consistent with God’s promises throughout the Bible - He will never leave us (Heb 13:5) and when we face things that are beyond our own abilities to deal with, He will always give us grace to endure, overcome, and grow as we follow Jesus. Throughout our journey, we’ve watched God keep His promises every time - He’s infinitely trustworthy, and we hope this truth is as encouraging to you as it is to us!)
