1 Corinthians 12:8–11 (NKJV) 

8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

The purpose of the spiritual gifts is the edification of the Church. If the exercise of the gifts does not edify and build up the body, they are valueless.

Part 5. The Vocabulary of Spiritual Gifts

Before we study each of the gifts enumerated in 1 Corinthians 12, we first need to explore key words.

The nature of spiritual gifts can be determined to a large degree by the vocabulary employed to refer to them. The first reference to the gifts as a general class of phenomena is found in 1 Corinthians, which was written in about 55 A.D. Chapters twelve to fourteen are devoted in their entirety to spiritual gifts.

The Background for Spiritual Gifts
·      It was to be expected that special spiritual enablement would be provided in order that the Church might carry out the Divine mission committed to her by the Lord Jesus Christ. [1]

Part 2 The Work of the Holy Spirit in the Life of the Christian

The beginning of the Christian life is initiated by the Holy Spirit, and then He continues to work in the life of the believer. In this teaching we will look at some of the ministries the Holy Spirit.

“The work of the Spirit is not completed when one becomes a believer; on the contrary, it is just beginning. He performs a number of other roles in the ongoing Christian life.”[1]

“A non-human entity possessing powers beyond the natural world. In the Bible, this includes angels, demons, and other spiritual beings. These entities play roles in God's divine plan, carrying out tasks or influencing events according to divine will.”

We will be looking at three categories: Angels, Satan, and Demons.
