"It’s said that Captain Layla Barlow of the Widow had a set of sails commissioned for her ship for her wedding night. They were sheer, made of the finest silks from Cathay and the most pearlescent white. But hours before speaking their solemn vows, Captain Layla entered her quarters to find her groom-to-be having an affair with her first mate. She murdered both he and his concubine and wept and wailed for days into the Veil, vowing to never marry again. While the silken sails were only for decoration at first, legend says she was so distraught with grief that they captured the shards of her broken heart, immortalizing them in crystal sheer within the very silk. Some say the sails were passed from wrathful widow to scorned lover, and their tears imbued themselves into the silk.
