In an era of politics defined by personal style and attitude I lay down my own political manifesto. But first I dive into the wildest political debate in recent years and my quick reactions to the recent Supreme Court rulings

The Anti-Partisan Guide to Having Strongly Held Political Beliefs Without Destroying Yourself, Other People, or The Country
  • The ends don’t always justify the means.
  • Everyone has blind spots, and everyone has something to teach me.
  • If I disagree with you, I have a responsibility to object to the strongest characterization of your position.
  • If you disagree with me, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you are morally corrupt.
  • The urgency of current events almost always eat policy goals for breakfast.
  • Our system of government is intentionally set up to keep you (and the other guy) from getting everything you want. Try to find that encouraging.
  • Character always matters.
  • Corruption exists on all sides. It only gets cleaned up when we hold our own side accountable.
  • Weaponizing any part of the government against people who disagree with me is shortsightedly foolish.
  • Exclusively consuming only one side of an issue is not “studying”.
  • Resist calling anyone intellectually dishonest.
  • If you act like a jerk, you can expect people to find ways to hate your policies, even if they are good.
  • Every virtue can be turned into a vice.
  • Even though I’m frequently tempted to deny it, I don’t think anyone is beyond redemption or persuasion.
