The wrongful conviction of a young 19 year old Somali man named Mr Jama Abdulkadir. Jama, with no prior convictions, who was convicted of Rape in the County Court here in Melbourne on 21 July 2008.
It was a case which stayed with me because of the injustice and the fact a young man had been incarcerated for 15 months before it was found that he had not committed the rape and had never been in the area the rape had allegedly occurred, evidence which was seemingly ignored or dismissed quickly.
