The crimes of Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Dennis Rader, and other high-profile killers are so breathtakingly awful that most people would not hesitate to label them 'evil'. In this ground-breaking book, renowned psychiatrist Michael H Stone - host of Discovery Channel's former series "Most Evil" - uses this common emotional reaction to horrifying acts as his starting point to explore the concept and reality of evil from a new perspective. In an in-depth discussion of the personality traits and behaviour that constitute evil across a wide spectrum, Dr Stone takes a clarifying scientific approach to a topic that for centuries has been inadequately explained by religious doctrines. Basing his analysis on the detailed biographies of over 600 violent criminals, Stone has created a 22-level hierarchy of evil behaviour, which loosely reflects the structure of Dante's Inferno. He traces two salient personality traits that run the gamut from those who commit crimes of passion to perpetrators of the worst crimes - sadistic torture and murder. One trait is narcissism, as exhibited in people who are so self-centred that they have little or no ability to care about their victims. The other is aggression, the use of power over another person to inflict humiliation, suffering, and death. Stone then turns to the various factors that, singly or intertwined, contribute to pushing certain people over the edge into committing heinous crimes. They include heredity, adverse environments, violence-prone cultures, mental illness or brain injury, and abuse of mind-altering drugs. All are considered in the search for the root causes of evil behaviour. What do psychology, psychiatry, and neuroscience tell us about the minds of those whose actions could be described as evil? And what will that mean for the rest of us? Stone discusses how an increased understanding of the causes of evil will affect the justice system. He predicts a day when certain persons can safely be declared salvageable and restored to society and when early signs of violence in children may be corrected before potentially dangerous patterns become entrenched. - www.michaelstonemd.com

Uncle Al Capone - Her grandfather was Ralph Capone, listed in 1930 as Public Enemy #3 by the Chicago Crime Commission. That makes her the grandniece of Public Enemy #1: Al Capone. As a child, she didn't know he was a notorious gangster ... he was just her Uncle Al. She sat on his knee and traded "knock-knock" jokes with him. He taught her how to swim, ride a bike, and play the mandolin. But after he died on her seventh birthday she began paying the price of being a Capone. From age 7 to 13 her classmates were not allowed to play with her. Just before her 11th birthday her father committed suicide due to the burden of the Capone name. At age 18 she was fired from her first full-time job because of her name. These circumstances made Deirdre determined to find out more about her family history and to write this book. Over the course of many years she had countless conversations with her grandfather Ralph, as well as Al's other brothers and only sister, Al's wife, and his only child, Sonny. Some were more open than others, and each made her promise to not publish anything until all of them were dead and buried. Deirdre is the last member of Al's family born with the name Capone. She is literally ...the last of the Capones. Finally, after all these years she is able to share things about Al Capone and his family that none of his many biographers ever knew. Most importantly, this is the only book written about Alphonse Capone by a person who actually knew him, touched him, heard him talk, and ate meals with him. - www.unclealcapone.com

Cassandra MacLeane has been a practicing psychic counselor and life cycle advisor for more than thirty years. In a client session, Cassandra uses charts, tarot cards, clairvoyance, psychometry, mediumship and numero cycology as her tools. Her clients come from all walks of life and include doctors, lawyers, psychologists, kings, clowns, athletes, movie stars, IT specialists, truck drivers, funeral directors, accountants, teachers, exotic dancers, editors and publishers, ministers and administrators. Cassandra once told an esteemed medical doctor who came for a reading that he was allergic to milk. The doctor was put off by her "diagnosis," after all, the medical realm was his profession... Two weeks later he returned to tell her he had done the tests, and she was right. A talented Chef said he intended to withdraw all his savings to launch his own restaurant. Cassandra did his chart and saw he was in a 9/4 year, the most dangerous and inappropriate cycle to strike out one's own, let alone begin anything new. The Chef went against her advice, but because of a past reading with Cassandra, he invested only half of his money. He opened his business and it failed miserably just as she had predicted. The following year she encouraged him to open another restaurant business. This time, at the beginning of a new nine year cycle, everything fell into place; the restaurant flourishes to this very day. - www.CassandraMacLeane.com
