Prison Profiteers brings together a formidable array of lawyers, prisoners, journalists and advocates to provide a unique look at who, exactly, is benefiting from mass imprisonment. Prison Profiteers takes readers on an investigative journey behind the bars of our nation's prisons to the front lines of its mass incarceration crisis and into the realm of its financially motivated private investors. The United States, with just five percent of the world's population, is responsible for incarcerating an astounding twenty five percent of the world's inmates. Thanks to thirty years of mass incarceration, the number of people in state and federal penitentiaries has dramatically increased from an estimated 300,000 to 2.3 million. The numbers are shocking, yet while much research has focused on the social issues that surround incarceration in the U.S., until now, little attention has been given to the individuals and commercial enterprises that profit from prisons and their related services. Prison Profiteers approaches the subject from a unique angle-not who is being harmed by current policies of mass imprisonment but rather who benefits from such policies. From investment banks that issue bonds for prison construction, to the companies that staff and manage prisons, and the organizations that provide medical care, we learn how they benefit and how much they profit. Paul Wright is the founder and editor of Prison Legal News, an independent monthly magazine that reports on the criminal justice system. He co-edited Prison Nature with Tara Herivel and The Celling of America with Daniel Burton-Rose. He is a 2005 Petra Foundation Fellow and the 2007 recipient of the James Madison Award from the Washington Coalition for Open Government.

Len Kasten has a B.A. degree from Cornell University, where he majored in psychology and minored in literature and philosophy. After graduating from Cornell he entered the U.S. Air Force Aviation Cadet program. While in the Air Force he experienced a UFO encounter that had a transformative effect on his life, although he didn’t realize it until a few years later. After serving in the Air Force he moved to Richmond, Virginia. On frequent trips to Virginia Beach, he spent a lot of time in the extensive New Age library at the Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.), the organization founded by psychic Edgar Cayce, where he acquired a self-education in metaphysics. He then moved to Boston where he was introduced to Theosophy and joined the Boston Theosophical Society.

Then later, while working in Washington D.C. in the 1960s, he felt drawn to join the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP). NICAP was the most prestigious organization in the country investigating UFO phenomena. At that time, in the mid-1960s, there was a wave of UFO sightings all across the country, and NICAP was precisely in the eye of the storm. It was swamped with inquiries from the public and the media, and was the major source of information nationally for UFO reports. Thanks to its thorough, careful field investigation program, NICAP was able to provide solid evidence to the press, which had the effect of embarrassing the government into beginning its own serious UFO investigation – the now infamous Project Blue Book.

In 1996, again living in Richmond, Virginia, Len began writing feature articles for Atlantis Rising Magazine. By this time, deeply involved in UFO research, most of his articles for the magazine were UFO related, although he also wrote about life after death, sacred geometry, Atlantis, free energy, holistic health, and other New Age subjects, much of his knowledge gleaned from his days at the A.R.E. library and his Theosophical studies. By 2010, Len had written fifty-two articles for Atlantis Rising, including eight cover stories. Over that fourteen year period, Len attended the annual week-long UFO Congress in Laughlin, Nevada, where he met and attended the lectures of hundreds of UFO investigators, researchers and writers from all over the world, several of whom he interviewed for Atlantis Rising.

It is now generally recognized that understanding the UFO/ET phenomena requires knowledge of metaphysics as well as analysis of the evidence. Since Len was able to bring his extensive metaphysical background into the writing of The Secret History of Extraterrestrials, the book achieves a depth of understanding of the phenomena not otherwise possible.

Everyone struggles at some point with health issues, whether it's physical pain, excessive weight, depression, anxiety or the stress that so often leads to other problems. As a healing practitioner trained in The Emotion Code, Sandee Mac shares a groundbreaking do-it-yourself method to spark physical, mental and emotional self-healing. Sandee has been researching, studying and teaching natural healing methods since the 1970s when she first began practicing dowsing – a method for finding anything that is hidden by observing the motion of a forked stick or a pendulum.

While most people think of dowsing as a way to find water, Sandee uses it in a much broader context to discover the causes of illness and help people create positive change. Sandee's unique background includes sociology, criminology, mental health and indigenous healing practices. Recently, her passion for natural and alternative healing led her to study The Emotion Code, the groundbreaking healing system developed by veteran holistic physician Dr. Bradley Nelson today being practiced around the globe. Dr. Nelson created The Emotion Code to help people release trapped emotions – the unseen emotional baggage from traumatic experiences that leads to physical, mental and emotional illness.

Trapped emotions are the largest underlying cause of mental and emotional problems such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks and phobias, and a major cause of physical disease including conditions often considered "incurable" such as fibromyalgia and chronic pain. People who have exhausted their options through traditional medicine are a big focus for Sandee. She works with people facing all kinds of physical, emotional and mental issues, with a specialty in solving chronic, unresolved pain. Sandee uses dowsing to help determine the best method of healing from among many systems she has studied, including The Emotion Code and The Body Code, Dr. Nelson's study course that teaches healing practitioners to recognize and treat the underlying imbalances that cause illness.

GRANT CAMERON became involved in Ufology as the Vietnam War ended in May 1975 with personal sightings of an object which locally became known as Charlie Red Star. The sightings occurred in Carman, Manitoba about 25 miles north of the Canada-US border. Hundreds of other people sighted objects at the same time during a prolonged flap of sightings.

Over the next 18 months he had many sightings of large objects and small (monitor) objects in the area. He spent countless days in the area photographing a series of strange objects and interviewing hundreds of witnesses who were involved.

These interviews became part of a manuscript called Tales of Charlie Red Star, which was published recently. Stories from the book will also be part of a movie that is being planned out of Toronto Canada on the contactee group RAMA.
