  • YB2C Live! Podcast Ep. #19 Following Your Dream and the Importance of Mentors: Monica Morgan

Our special guest this week is Monica Morgan, a world renowned photographer, public speaker, and freelance entrepreneur based in Detroit, Michigan. Monica has a great story to tell about how she changed her own career trajectory from being a writer to becoming a premier photographer who has photographed so many people and so many events here in Detroit and all over the world, including Rosa Parks and Nelson Mandela.

Monica describes how she realized that the photographs that accompanied the journalistic articles she wrote were more effective and more lucrative. She tells the story of how her mentors encouraged her to go to South Africa to cover Nelson Mandela when he was finally released from prison, and how that trip changed her professional life, even though she was just starting her photography business at the time.

Monica explains how her mentor was instrumental in the growth and development of her business, and how now she in turn mentors others on a regular basis.

What goes into photographing famous people and important events, Monica explains, is so much more than just "taking pictures."

  • YB2C Live! Podcast Ep. #18 Determined by Design with Kia Weatherspoon

In this episode, which is focused on the benefits of networking for entrepreneurs, our special guest is Kia Weatherspoon, Founder and President of Determined by Design a very unique and specialized architecture and design firm located in Washington D.C. Kia and I met last fall at a panel discussion on urban design; Kia was in Detroit for another purpose and she and Pam connected at the event. During the first part of today's interview, Kia and Pam discuss the importance of networking, and how to attract and connect with people at events.

Later in our interview, Kia tells her exciting and inspirational story about how she originally studied dance, then went into the military (including several overseas deployments), and later went into architecture and interior design for both higher-end commercial clients and lower-end residential clients. Kia is full of passion, a ball of energy, and gives our freelancer listeners a ton of great ideas and tips.

  • YB2C Live! Podcast Ep. #17 Plum Health with Dr. Paul Thomas

In this episode, our special guest is Dr. Paul Thomas, the founder of Plum Health DPC (Direct Patient Care) in Detroit Michigan. Dr. Thomas considers himself a "community doctor" and a resource for the community. After graduating from the Wayne State University of Medicine and completing his residency at a local hospital and medical center, Dr. Thomas realized that there were problems in our current fee-for-service health system, and started Plum Health to deliver high quality medical care while also giving back to the community.

Dr. Thomas believes that Direct Primary Care is a better and more patient-centered way to practice medicine by allowing more time with the doctor, a greater responsiveness to patients' needs, and a restoration of the valued doctor-patient relationship.

Join us as Dr. Thomas details his journey from working in community health from the time he was in high school to opening his own special and unique DPC clinic - which there are only two such clinics in the State of Michigan!

  • YB2C Live! Podcast Ep. #15 Spring Forward with Your Business!

In this episode Pam and Keith remind their listeners how important it is to conduct quarterly reviews.

Keith describes how future planning is done at a newspaper, especially a weekly newspaper like the Michigan Chronicle where many articles are pre-

planned, but the editors must be ready for late-breaking news. It is very important to create a sort of schedule that is flexible and can be changed at the drop of a hat. Quarterly reviews can keep these kinds of flexible schedules running smoothly.
