How got to Shep?
On a mission trip with Encuentro- a preacher named Shawn asked the congregation to approach the alter if they felt like they were lost/were ready to answer what God had for them —> linked me with Allen
I felt very lost on my journey of what I was going to be doing in the fall after graduating HS. I was then introduced to it from a mentor at home who is connected to shepherd and works a lot with them.
What are you learning?
Ministry as a concept of WITH and not TO
The difference on living in an area that’s on a different end of the spectrum. Wealthy and middle class areas to poor and low income area. How different the groups are and how people handle life. But also learning how to be the hands and feet of Jesus the best I can all day everyday.
What has surprised you?
What’s hard?
Quiet time; holding yourself accountable for taking time to have sweet moments with the Lord.
^^ but also setting time aside for yourself to replenish and be refreshed. Having discipline to make time for healthy habits.
What’s rewarding?

Seeing the kids and families excited to see you and give you hugs
Why should someone apply for summer intern/fellowship?
It’s God’s way of saying: you have time. You don’t have to have it all figured out coming out of high school or even college. Nobody does. You have time to think and grow amongst other believers that will motivate and encourage you to embody every aspect that Christ has laid out for your life.
You learn a lot constantly on how to serve others and are constantly being pushed in your relationship with the Lord. Building the relationships with families and kids is so worth it and it’s rewarding to see them grow. For me, just coming out of high school and now knowing what I wanted to do with my life, it has allowed me to let God take me where he wants and build his kingdom and just serve and impact people.
Parting thoughts?
This aspect of my life keeps bringing me back to a piece of Scripture in Joshua
Joshua 24: 14-15
“Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness… but if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.”
Joshua’s saying: pick a side. These opportunities don’t come every day for you to go back and forth on. If you want to love the Lord your God with all of you heart, soul and mind, then be bold and stick with it. Just because we’re Christian doesn’t mean we’re soft. And it certainly doesn’t mean we’re flimsy.
