Favorite quote from the Podcast:
It is not about "not being afraid"
Rather it is about keeping your eyes on the Hero.
Recent updates as well as two topics that have been front of mind.
"Chesterton says we will never recover common sense until we recover the mysticism of the saints. The saints are ‘wild and perfect.” They put their idealism in the right place and their realism in the right place. We have both things displaced. The saints put their dreams and sentiments into their aims, where they ought to be, and their practicality into their practice, where it ought to be. We have it backwards. Our dreams, we insist are quite practical. But our practice is quite impractical. Our aims fall short of heaven. Our practice falls short even of earth. And one of the main problems with our practice is that we don’t do anything ourselves. We don’t take responsibility. We leave it to the expert or to the public servant or to the private servant. "
The Twins share a couple experiences from the last 8+ weeks along with insights from the quote:
"Said a man to me recently. “I would give twenty years of my life to be able to write an immortal hymn.” With such an ambition a man cannot write a hymn. He wants to pose. He is thinking of himself, of his own glory. Before a man can write an immortal hymn, or create any immortal work he must give, not twenty years of his life to ambition, but to do anything great, he must sing, paint, write, ten thousand bitter experiences, ten thousand failures, ten thousand conquests, ten thousand joys. He must know Gethsemane; he must work with blood and tears.
Men of great genius are such because of their spontaneous simplicity… “Retaining their intellect and moral powers, and returning to simplicity, a man becomes great. He forfeits nothing real. Only shames are cast aside, revealing the standard gold of character. Where there is sincerity there will always be simplicity - a simplicity of the kind we see in nature, the beautiful simplicity of truth.”
