The disciples continue to misunderstand what Jesus is about on earth. Jesus rebukes James and John when they seek vengeance on a town of Samaritans and reminds them to love their enemies, share the gospel, and pray for their salvation.

The disciples have made it! They have had a successful trial run of ministry away from Jesus. They have witnessed miracles and heard the teachings of Jesus. Some of them have even seen the glory of God in the face of Christ. They’ve made it and they’re ready to continue moving forward. 

WRONG! The disciples haven’t made it. What Luke records in our passage tonight should help us to realize that followers of Christ must never stop growing in His likeness. When growth stops happening, we become dependent on ourselves rather than God. When that happens we cease being effective for His kingdom.

Narrow is the road that Christians Walk on, but deep are the ditches on either side of the path.
