Scene from Criss Cross where Steve Thompson (Burt Lancaster) sees Anna (Yvonne Dicarlo) months after she ran off with Dundee. The way it features the LA's Union Station in all its 40s glamour is pretty amazing, and the fonts of the 'Information,' 'Newstand,' and 'Parcels' signs are just more eye candy for this gorgeous on-location shoot.

This hospital scene  towards the end of Criss Cross has gotta be a forerunner to a similar sequence in The Godfather when Michael is trying to save his father from an imminent hit.

The unforgettable Round-Up Club featuring the Esy Morales band playing "Jungle Fantasy" as Steve Thompson (Burt Lancaster) spies his ex-wife Anna (Yvonne De Carlo) cutting up the dance floor with an uncredited Tony Curtis. Noir doesn't get much better than this scene.

I wanted to make a quick note of something both MBS and I noted when watching The New Land. There's a scene when Karl Oskar (Max von Sydow) is caught in a blizzard with his young son Johan on their newly acquired (and prized) Ox. The passage home is blocked and Karl Oskar is forced to cut up parts of a tree to clear the path, in the interim Johan is freezing to death. Once Karl Oskar realizes as much he decides to kill his OX and cut him open in order to warm his son up and save his life. Sound like any other scene from a 1982 film called The Empire Strikes Back?
