John Findlay is doing the community of Sault Ste. Marie a health service.
Your friendly neighbourhood Mushroom Farmer
At the Soo MRKT 73 Brock Street, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario every Saturday year round 9am-2pm
“I love producing super healthy mushrooms that are available to everyone. I’d like to thank you in advance for supporting me along my journey!”
“I was inspired in 2017 listening to Paul Stamets ‘Biodiversity is Biosecurity – strengthening foodwebs using mycological solutions’ podcast explaining how healthy and vital to human survival these gourmet and medicinal mushrooms can be.
I’ve always wanted to be a part of helping my local community and it took a while to find a niche that our city was lacking and I resonated with, mushrooms are a perfect fit!”
“I feel very strongly about when Paul says ‘If you knew that every breath you took could save hundreds of lives in the future, had you walked down this path of knowledge, wouldn’t you run down that path of knowledge as fast as you could?”

Dear Rita: A Forgotten Soldier’s Story 1940 – 1944
A unique WWII era collection of 75 letters sent by Royal Regiment of Artillery Canada (RRAC) Gunner Robert ‘Bob’ Lumsden from his southern England postings to his sweetheart Rita Pinkerton (North Bay, Ontario) between January 1941 and November 1943. Bob and Rita only ever met once in person, yet their letters are a testament to youthful passions, powerful hopes and dreams for a future together – all dashed when Bob was killed in a November 1943 motorcycle crash. No family members have ever visited Bob’s grave – an anonymous, forgotten casualty of a terrible war. Rita kept their correspondence-fueled love affair secret her entire life. Her beloved niece Joanne Pinkerton Gallant discovered the neatly bound letters after Rita’s death in 2008. Joanne decided that Bob – and what he meant to Rita – would never be forgotten.
Also releasing soon is a book, part memoir and part history, about Group of Seven painter A.Y. Jackson. Many Sault Ste. Marie connections were involved in the creation of this work.

With her innovative modern design, sumptuous materials, and vintage hat-blocking techniques, Karyn Ruiz of Lilliput Hats has become one of Canada’s preeminent milliners.
Working from her shop / atelier, on College Street in Toronto’s Little Italy neighbourhood, Karyn and her team of highly skilled associates handcraft, block and sew each hat to exacting specifications. Using traditional techniques and fine craftsmanship, every hat is handmade by a person, not a machine, lending continuity to the long, valued tradition of fine millinery.
In the three decades since she began fashioning one-of-a-kind creations, Karyn has become the go-to milliner for people seeking a special event head-piece or something fun for every day enjoyment. Her extensive collection of new and antique hat blocks and high quality seasonal materials allow her to produce a range of shapes, sizes and styles that will work for women and men, for any occasion.
In 2016, Karyn created a series of hats for Gord Downie as The Tragically Hip embarked on their final Canadian tour. The wide-brimmed hats embellished with intricate leather and feather trims quickly became iconic, and images of her hats now adorn the logos for the both the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research and his beloved Chanie Wenjack Fund. Her hats have also been worn by Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, who sported a black pillbox at an official meeting with Pope Francis, as well as by clients including Rachel McAdams, and Whoopi Goldberg.
In addition to custom work, the shop carries an extensive collection of off-the-rack hats inspired by past eras but always with a current, wearable and stylish sensibility.
So whether you’re looking for a fantastic hat to shield you from the sun or the snow, or something luxurious for a wedding, bar mitzvah or milestone event, Lilliput Hats will create an exceptional, quality hat.

The ladies huddle for their annual take on the entertainment they are consuming on tv’s numerous streaming services. The content ranges far and wide but there is a common element to their choices – the ladies get emotionally invested and then deal with the consequences. There’s intensity and humour in equal doses. ‘The Thinking Chair’ is a departure from his previous books, ones where Frank featured different, often dynamic Sault cultural histories, human migration stories, and hockey world legacies. In his new offering, Frank draws upon his long Sault community building experience, successful 40 year legal career, and later in life doctoral studies (PhD, Community Organizations, Bristol University, UK). ‘The Thinking Chair’ provides a fine blueprint for every community organization, institution, or non-profit enterprise seeking to achieve positive change and bringing people together, united in a common cause.
For more than forty years, Dr. Frank S. Sarlo was a practicing lawyer acting on behalf of numerous institutions, industries, businesses and government agencies. Much of his time was spent sitting on federal, provincial and local boards and agencies as well as being involved, at all levels, in community projects in sports, the arts, political campaigns, and fund raisers. Because he was interested in examining examples of successful community mobilizations, Frank completed his doctoral thesis to determine the influences and processes that assist in leading to successful community mobilization. In addition, he had the privilege to take a leadership role in a number of successful community mobilizations that required the organization and recruitment of community assets to meet a specific challenge or goal.
“Because of my love and appreciation for Sault Ste. Marie and its people, my books all deal with their spirit and soul of one kind or another.” – Frank Sarlo

Hey there — I’m Marcy.
I’m a northern Ontario girl with mud on my boots, stardust in my planner, and a habit of turning “one day” into “how about now?”
Bucket & Go wasn’t born in a boardroom with a coffee in hand. It was born somewhere between palliative care night shifts, roadside pit stops, and kitchen table travel plans that started with, “What if we just said screw it and went?”
After 26 years in health care — most of them spent walking alongside people in their final days — I learned the kind of things no textbook or TED Talk can teach you.
Like how time is both a thief and a gift.
How regrets feel heavier than backpacks.
And how nobody ever says they wish they’d scrolled more.
That’s why Bucket & Go isn’t about chasing more-it’s about choosing what actually matters, while you still can.
My husband and I? We’re those people. We sold everything. Bought a cabin in the woods. Planted trees. Made fires. Laughed a lot. Cried sometimes. Wandered dirt roads with a camera in one hand and a half-baked dream in the other.
People tell us all the time:
“I live through your adventures.”
And while I totally get the sentiment — it always hits me the same way: You don’t have to live through me. You can live like you mean it, too.
So I built Bucket & Go. First for us — to track, dream, and plan a life that felt true. Then I realized… this isn’t just ours.
This is for you.
The road trip rebel. The stargazing soul. The Sunday planner and the Monday dreamer. The person who’s tired of saying “Maybe next year.”
This site is my love letter to the magic of choosing now over never — and the belief that you don’t have to be rich, perfect, or fearless to live a damn good story.
You just have to start.
So here it is: part guide, part gut-check, part hell yes.
Welcome to Bucket & Go.
Let’s trade burnout for bucket lists.
Let’s live the life we swore we’d never settle for.
Let’s pack light, dream big, and cuss a little when the GPS reroutes.
And if you ever need proof that it’s okay to start over in the middle of nowhere with a wild heart and Wi-Fi, well… you’re lookin’ at her.
“Time waits for no one.”
