“He heard someone playing an Andalusian guitar, the drumming of a thousand bat wings inside a dark cave. He heard an ancient lyre, the leaf of autumn falling to the ground, someone whispering “I love you”. He heard the sound of wind, a beating heart, and a mother saying good night to her child”

  • About That Civic Responsibility Thing – The Superior View
About That Civic Responsibility Thing – The Superior View

Civic responsibility involves active participation in public life, such as voting, obeying laws, serving on juries, protecting heritage and environment, and volunteering. Citizenship also includes staying informed about public policy, fostering a sense of social awareness, and contributing to the well-being of the community. The ladies have a civil discussion on the topic by asking what the term means, and from there they let it rip. But with respect for respect, and yes there are some laughing out loud parts.

    Speech From The Throne

The Speak Easy Podcast evokes the spirit of fearless conversation and honest debate. Like the hidden bars of the Prohibition era, this podcast creates a space for unfiltered political discourse – where ideas flow freely, perspectives clash respectfully, and nothing is off the table. With co-hosts Robert Peace and Josh Vierimaa offering both seasoned insight and fresh perspective, The Speak Easy invites listeners into a conversation that is as bold as it is accessible.

Episode 6 05/25 – Speech From The Throne

At Prime Minister Mark Carney’s request, King Charles of England was invited to highlight the opening session of Canada’s parliament. Speculation as to how Charles would further use the platform in delivering the historic speech had been building for weeks. The Speak Easy took in the proceedings for themselves to file their own report on a royal performance the nation hasn’t seen since 1977.

Robert Peace is a longtime political strategist, media producer, and community advocate based in Sault Ste. Marie. With decades of experience advising leaders, running campaigns, and building grassroots initiatives, he brings sharp insights and a deep understanding of politics at every level.

Josh Vierimaa is an 18-year-old political consultant and rising voice in Canadian conservatism. As a strategist for both provincial and federal Conservative campaigns in Sault Ste. Marie, founder of the Conservative Youth at Algoma University and President of the Students’ Union, Josh brings sharp political instincts, a deep love of history, and a fresh generational perspective to The Speak Easy podcast.

  • Rod Carley – RUFF & Ready Book Tour
Rod Carley – RUFF & Ready Book Tour

Ruff – Rod Carley’s back with another theatrical odyssey packed with an unforgettable cast of Elizabethan eccentrics. It’s a madcap world more modern than tomorrow where gender is what a person makes of it (no matter the story beneath their petticoats or tights).

Will Shakespeare is having a very bad year. Suffering from a mid-life crisis, a plague outbreak, and the death of the ancient Queen, Will’s mettle is put to the test when the new King puts his witch-burning hobby aside to announce a national play competition that will determine which theatre company will secure his favour and remain in business. As he struggles to write a Scottish supernatural thriller, Will faces one ruff and puffy obstacle after another including a young rival punk poet and his activist-wife fighting for equality and a woman’s right to tread the boards.

Will and his band of misfits must ensure not only their own survival, but that of England as well. The stage is set for an outrageous and compelling tale of ghosts, ghostwriting, writer’s block, and the chopping block.
Ruffly based on a true story.

“This ain’t your mother’s Shakespeare! It’s punk rock. It’s spicy. It’s urgent. It’s hilarious. And maybe most of all, it’s a historical fiction that’s very much for the right now.”

In Conversation w/ Mary Lou Sicoly & John Ebata & Karl Scholz for BigBrothersBigSisters

“Mary Lou’s secret weapon is a voice that lands neatly between the brightness of soprano and rich depth of alto and the way she smoothly shifts back and forth between them. Mary Lou is a woman in love with music, in love with singing, in love with life itself. Next time there’s a chance to see her perform, get on it as fast as you can. Sit as upfront as you can to make it easier for all this love to rub off on you. But if you have to stand in the back, don’t worry. Her love has a terrific range and will reach you.” – Lenny Stoute, Canadian Entertainment Journalist, Toronto

Patti Jannetta is a Canadian Recording Artist with a long history of touring in the 80’s and 90’s from Europe to Asia to Las Vegas. She co-wrote and performed with celebrities such as Ronnie Hawkins and Bo Diddley and hosted her own CBC specials. She continues to perform (John is her Musical Director) and produces and directs large events.

Patti’s father , Louis Jannetta ran the Imperial Room of the Royal York Hotel and he booked all the big entertainment there. Patti grew up with many celebrities and Tony Bennett was a regular dinner guest at their home when he was in town.

And here is a fun piece of history: when Patti was touring with her band and she did the Northern Ontario circuit, she did a couple of appearances in the Sault. Guess who signed her Musicians’ Union contract…….Orlando Sicoly….small world!

Patti is an absolutely wonderful person and I’m thrilled to share the stage with her. Along with Patti will be her husband, Dave Baker on bass and our fabulous drummer, Aaron Ferrera, both from Toronto.
