Welcome back to another episode from TheCase.Report!
This month, Orla, Leah and Deirdre sat down to discuss the case of an unwitnessed maternal collapse and the changes in approach to having an expectant mother in your resuscitation room.
Our AITR to oversee our work this week is Dr Andreit Engelbrecht, a fantastic EM Consultant from Connolly Hospital.
Then, we head over to Tallaght Hospital and Dr Aileen McCabe to lead us through the work-up and examination for obstetrics and gynaecology presentations in our emergency departments.
Finally, we turn to our talented obstetric colleagues in the National Maternity Hospital for some further tips and tricks and a full walk-through of the perinatal caesarean section from Professor Mary Higgins.
Right. Let's get to it!
Welcome back to another episode of TheCase.Report!
As usual, we’re kicking things off with a case. Anna, Tadgh and Mohammed chat through a case of a sick bub - A very sick bub in fact!
But not to worry, as our Adult-in-the-Room Dr. Michael Barrett is on hand to check our work and give them a dig out if needed.
Anna also sat down with Dr. Dani Hall for an update on head injuries.
And Mohammed was joined by Dr. Yvonne MacAuley, who had some great tips on managing dental trauma.
We’ll leave links to the different papers and resources mentioned in the show notes at TheCase.Report.
Right, let’s get to it!
Welcome back everyone to a special bonus episode of TheCase.Report!
We've created a new position here. A very special new position, and Mohammed is here to help you get to know the role and the person stepping into it!
Our associate producer is a junior colleague with aspirations of pursuing a career in EM, whether they be an intern or a medical student. We’ve created this position to give someone a chance to not only learn the nuts and bolts of producing this show, but also to rub shoulders with and learn from all the greats of Irish EM… and the rest of us clowns as well.
But without further ado, I present to you Dr. Leah Flanagan, intern in Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar, and Associate Producer on TheCase.Report!
Let’s get to it!
Welcome back to TheCase.Report!
Orla and Tom will take us through some contrasting cases, and Dr. Áine Mitchell will look over their work.
For our second segment, Jeff sat down with Prof. Conor Deasy for a chat about the state of trauma services in Ireland and the Major Trauma Audit.
Dr. Shane Broderick joins Jeff for the last segment to give us some invaluable tips when dealing with trauma.
Head over to TheCase.Report website for all the show notes and resources.
Let's get to it!
Welcome back everyone to another episode of TheCase.Report!
If you’re a denizen of med twitter like us, then your world will have been rocked by the HALT-IT trial results too. But it’s important to remember that there’s more to upper GI bleeding than TXA!
With that in mind, Orla, Timbs and Mohammed will tackle a case of an upper GI bleed. Think they’re up to the challenge? Our AITR Dr. Trish Lucey will check their work!
For our second segment, Timbs sat down with Dr. Nicolas Lim to chat about Suction Assisted Laryngoscopy Airway Decontamination (SALAD) – and I apologize in advance for all the salad jokes…
For our last segment today, we’ve got a changeover special! Orla’s kindly come back with some tips for anyone new to EM, to help you get started on the right track.
Right, let’s get to it!
Welcome back to TheCase.Report! We’re delighted to have you with us for the June 2020 edition.
For our case this month, Barry, Hugh, and Mohammed will take us through a challenging scenario.
Long story short, myocardial tickles are no laughing matter!
For our second segment this month, Andy joined Barry and Mohammed to chat through a couple of important recent papers in toxicology. Have a read of them and see what you think:
And for our last segment, we were delighted to have Dr. Kiran Santlal come on the show to chat to us about Chemsex.
More detail and resources over here in our show notes!
Thank you all for joining us for our very first episode of TheCase.Report! We’re delighted to have you with us as we set off on this very exciting journey! This month we’ll be looking at (what else!) COVID-19.
For our first segment, Mohammed, Karl and Safras will be going through a case and discussing the issues it raises. Our adult in the room this month Dr. Cian McDermott will check our work after!
Then we’ll be joined by Prof. Dara Byrne, who’ll help us think about simulation, and it’s varied uses during this pandemic.
Dr. Una Kennedy will talk to us about wellness in EM and will share some great tips for looking after ourselves and each other.
Sources & resources will all be linked in the show notes, in-line for the case material, and Sim & Wellness resources all the way at the end!
Let’s get to it!
Everything is changing. These days it feels like every day brings a new unexpected challenge. But it’s exactly in times like these, when everything is in flux, that we need to utilise, expand on and showcase the dynamism of our specialty.
From IEMTA (The Irish Emergency Medicine Trainees’ Association), comes TheCase.Report, a new Emergency Medicine podcast focussing on clinical challenges, and putting a spotlight on issues important to the specialty, and to all of us as EM providers.
We’re kicking things off with, you guessed it, an episode all about covid-19 on May 11th. As if you don’t hear enough about it…
But we’ll make it different, we’ll make it fun, and we’ll make it worth your while!
