Encaustic Prints with Jill Skupin Burkholder
In this episode of TheFIX, fine art photographer and workshop leader Jill Skupin Burkholder joins host Seán Duggan for a conversation about her work making encaustic prints, a process that uses hot beeswax and resin over the photographic image. In addition to encaustic, Jill has also worked extensively with the bromoil process. Both techniques involve the artist using her hands, brushes, and other tools and result in a very tactile and organic-looking image. We discuss her latest series, Hidden Catskills, in which she used a motion-activated trail camera to capture images of passing wildlife that she then enhanced with the encaustic process into large fine art prints. The project was made possible with public funds from the NYS Council on the Arts and the Greene County Council on the Arts, New York.
