Money has tremendous power for influence, either for good or for bad. For that reason, Jesus had more to say about money than even about heaven or hell. Either you learn to manage it, or it manages you. In Luke 16, verses 1-13, we read one of the most shocking stories Jesus ever told—about the shrewd manager commended for his strategic thinking, in spite of his dishonesty. From this parable we learn four things not to do with money: 1. Don’t waste it (verse 1); 2. Don’t love it or live for it (verse 13); 3. Don’t trust it for security (verse 3); and 4. Don’t expect it to satisfy (verse 15). Sadly, a lot of people are poor money managers. Because he has our eternity in mind, Jesus wants to transform how we think about money.
