LOVE GOD

28) One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?"
29) "The most important one," answered Jesus, "Is this: 'Hear, O Israel:
The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
30) Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind
and with all your strength.'

THE SHEMA
Deuteronomy 6:6-9
6) These commandments that I give you today
are to be on your hearts.
7) Impress them on your children. Talk about them
when you sit at home and when you walk along the road,
when you lie down and when you get up.
8) Tie them as symbols on your hands and
bind them on your foreheads.
9) Write them on the doorframes of your
houses and on your gates.
FULFILL THE LAW
Matthew 5:17-18
17) Do not thank that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets;
I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them.
18) For I tell you truly, until heaven and earth pass away, not a single jot, not a stroke of a pen,
will disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.
LOVE IS ACTION
Visible action shows our love for an invisible God.
LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR
Mark 12:31
ONE FATHER
Malachi 2:10
10) Do we not all have one Father? Did not one God create us?
Why do we profane the covenant of our ancestors by being unfaithful to one another?"
LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR
Love that is expressed is love that is realized.
LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR
"To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is a lot like being loved by God. It is what we need more than anything. It liberates us from pretense, humbles us out of our self-righteousness, and fortifies us for any difficulty life can throw at us."
-Tim Keller
LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR
"Self-righteous service is temporary. It functions only while the specific acts of service are being performed. Having served it can rest easy. True service is a lifestyle. It acts from the ingrained pattern of living. It springs spontaneously to meet human need."
-Robert Foster
The Outward Disciplines
LOVE NOT SACRIFICE
Mark 12:32-33
32) "Well said, teacher," the man replied. "You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. Do we not all have one Father? Did not one God create us? Why do we profane the covenant of our ancestors by being unfaithful to one another?"
33) To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.
THIS IS LOVE
1 John 4:10
10) This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us
and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
LOVE GOD, LOVE PEOPLE
Mark 12:34
34) When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far
from the kin
