"As Memorial Day was officially established as a federal holiday in the United States in 1971. It is observed annually in the United States on the last Monday in May. So that's the brief history part. Now, I do want to point out I never came From a military family. I don't know anyone in my immediate family who was ever in the military. We were more on the education side of things. So ashamedly, I never really understood what this holiday was about."
