Theology in Practice

This week we set up the story of the woman at the well by looking into the differences between the Samaritan people and the Jews. 

This week we finish up chapter 3 looking at John's comments about Jesus and John the Baptist.  This is a comparison that John has been developing since chapter 1.  We learn about the Supremacy, Testimony and Authority of Christ.

This week we continue in John's gospel by looking back at the example of John the Baptist.  John the Baptist teaches us that in every aspect of our lives, we need to be pointing others to Christ and make him greater.  In order for that to happen we must decrease.

As we continue our study of John, we move into the book of signs.  John will record 7 specific signs that all point to the power and glory of Jesus as the Messiah.

This week we finish out chapter 1 of John and look at the disciples Jesus calls and what that means for Christians today.  John gives Christians examples from Andrew, Simon Peter, Phillip and Nathanael.  Using these examples we learn about Christ's divinity and how we can be better followers of Christ.

This week we focus on the act of John the Baptist proclaiming to the world that Jesus is "the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"  John relies heavily on Old Testament imagery about the sacrificial system.  John the Baptist consistently points to Christ and serves as an example for Christians to do the same today.
