In today's reading we see double typology at work (In theological terms Typology means that something in the Old Testament is foreshadowing of something in the New Testament).

In this passage Matthew gives us another link to the Old Testament, and another way in which Christ is the new Moses. Herod orders the slaughte of innocent male children because he feels his throne is threatened.

This verse speaks of the Holy Family escaping into Egypt. It is a fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy, but also a recapitulation of the Exodus story.

Today we read about Joseph having a dream to take the holt family to Egypt so they can avoid the murderous assault of King Herod.

This ends the narrative that includes the wise men. They realize that Herod has evil intention, disobey their orders, and go back to Persia via another route.

Today we look at one of the most iconic verses in the Christmas story. We read about the wise men finally reaching their destination, and bringing gifts and worshipping the child Jesus.

Continuing in Matthew chapter 2 we see that the Magi follow the orders of Herod and immediately leave to find the Christ child. When the star stops they are filled with great joy.

To we see Herod sending the wise men out to search for Jesus. He tells them to send word back when they find him.

In these verses we read about the messianic prophecy regarding the tiny town of Bethlehem. We look at its signifigance.

Today we continue our journey into chapter two of Matthew's Gospel. Today we read about Herod becoming afraid and wanting to know which city the Messiah was born in.
