  • Question and Answer Friday: William Lane Craig's "Neo Appoinarianism"
In this episode of Theology Unplugged, we dive deep into the controversy surrounding William Lane Craig's neo-Apollinarianism. I'll walk you through the historic understanding of the hypostatic union, even though I didn't use the term explicitly, and explain what Craig is teaching in this area. While some label him a heretic, I'm not entirely convinced that his views fall outside the bounds of Chalcedon. Yet, I do think he pushes theological boundaries too far at points. Ultimately, we need to rest in mystery and embrace apophatic theology, focusing on what we cannot define, rather than over-explaining the divine.
Join the conversation and share your thoughts on Craig's perspective and the balance between mystery and theological clarity. I'd love to hear where you stand on these important discussions in Christian thought.

  • 59. Through Theology in a Year with C. Michael Patton: Embracing Unity in Diversity
Is bad theology a sin? In this episode, we explore this controversial question and how it shapes many unhealthy paradigms within the church. We dive into the tension between differing theological perspectives and ask whether it's always wrong to hold incorrect beliefs. From there, we discuss the beauty of unity and diversity within the body of Christ, recognizing that God created us to be united by central truths while also embracing our differences. These differences help us grow and push us to continually refine our understanding of theology, which is always a work in progress. We wrap up with a reflection on 1 Corinthians 13:12 and how we "see through a mirror dimly," underscoring that this journey of understanding will continue even in eternity.
Let's continue the conversation in the comments. How do you see the balance between unity and diversity in theology? Is there room for differing views, or do you believe we need strict adherence to certain doctrines?

In this episode, we continue the defense of whether God still speaks today, diving deeper into the topic introduced last time. I provide nine of the best arguments for the continuation of God's direct communication, including biblical mandate, biblical precedent, historical continuation, and personal experience. Each argument is examined in light of Scripture, history, and theology, showing why many believe God continues to speak today in various ways.

  • Pope Francis and Papal Infallibility
In this episode, we dive into the recent controversial statements made by Pope Francis regarding the possibility of salvation for non-Christians and atheists. We'll explore why these comments have raised concerns among Protestants and others who question whether this could be potential heresy. To provide context, we'll discuss the difference between ordinary and extraordinary teachings in the Catholic Church, breaking down what makes a papal statement infallible. We'll also look at the history of the Church, focusing on "bad popes," including those involved in scandals or heresy, and what that means for papal infallibility today. How can we understand Pope Francis's statements within the broader framework of Catholic tradition, and what does history teach us about the limits of papal authority?
