What happens to Christian faith when something you believe turns out to be wrong?

In this teaching, we explore how Christian faith can survive difficult questions, intellectual challenges, and growth without losing its foundation.

Using the image of a living tree, we examine different levels within Christian belief. The roots represent God as the ultimate ground of reality. The trunk represents the resurrection of Jesus Christ at the center of the apostolic proclamation. Major branches represent historic doctrines defining Christian orthodoxy. Leaves represent interpretations where faithful Christians may disagree, while seeds represent developing theological models open to examination.

What happens when the storm hits.

Scientific discoveries may challenge our interpretation of a biblical passage. Historical research may complicate something we were taught. Suffering, unanswered prayer, doubt, or the failure of Christian leaders may also force us to examine what we believe and why.

The central question is not whether every interpretation will survive examination. The deeper question is whether we know where the roots are.

The Tree model asks where a belief functions within Christian faith. The Fidelity Audit asks what level of historical and theological authority a claim carries within Christian tradition.

The Fidelity Audit uses three categories: Gold, Silver, and Bronze.

Gold concerns central dogmatic boundaries established by the ancient ecumenical Church,

Silver concerns broad and enduring consensus within historic Christianity.

Bronze allows responsible theological exploration where historic Christianity permitted disagreement, provided proposals remain biblically responsible, historically informed, logically coherent, and within Christian orthodoxy.

We also distinguish confidence from certainty.

Confusing these categories can make faith unnecessarily fragile.

Theological stability does not require theological immobility.

A living faith can learn, grow, reconsider interpretations, and admit mistakes while remaining rooted in God and centered upon Jesus Christ.

The storm may move the branches. Leaves may fall. Some things may need reconsideration.

But a leaf is not a root, a hypothesis is not the resurrection, and our interpretation of Christianity is not identical to Christianity itself.

Has the Church replaced Israel?

In this teaching, we examine the relationship between Israel and the Church, the doctrine commonly called supersessionism or replacement theology, and the biblical question of whether God's covenant promises to Israel remain significant after the coming of Christ.

We begin with the Abrahamic covenant and God's promise that through Abraham all the nations of the earth would be blessed. From there, we examine Israel's covenantal role, the prophetic expectation of restoration, the ministry of Jesus, and the expansion of the gospel to the nations.

Particular attention is given to Romans 9 through 11 and Paul's olive tree analogy. Gentile believers are described not as replacing the natural tree, but as wild branches grafted into an existing root. Paul therefore warns Gentile Christians not to boast over the natural branches and declares that the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable.

We also examine Galatians 3 and Ephesians 2, asking how Jews and Gentiles can become one people in Christ without requiring the erasure of Israel's historical and covenantal identity.

Several theological models are considered, including supersessionism, strict separation between Israel and the Church, dual covenant approaches, and models of continuity and fulfillment.

The central argument of this teaching is that Gentile inclusion does not require Israel's replacement. There is one Savior, one gospel, and one redeemed people united in Christ, while God remains faithful to the promises He has made throughout the biblical story.

What happens when we die, what is the final destiny of the wicked, and when will believers be gathered to Christ?

In this teaching, we examine death, judgment, and eschatology as parts of one connected biblical story, including the intermediate state, resurrection, final punishment, Christ’s return, and the gathering of the elect.

We begin by asking whether the dead remain conscious or experience what is commonly called soul sleep. The biblical descriptions of Sheol, Samuel’s appearance to Saul, the rich man and Lazarus, Jesus’ promise to the thief on the cross, Paul’s desire to depart and be with Christ, and the martyrs in Revelation all contribute to the discussion.

The central argument is that the dead remain conscious while awaiting resurrection. However, the intermediate state is not humanity’s final destination. The Christian hope is the resurrection of the body and the restoration of embodied human life.

We then examine eternal conscious torment and annihilationism, with particular attention to biblical language concerning death, destruction, perishing, eternal punishment, unquenchable fire, the lake of fire, and the second death.

The strongest biblical arguments for eternal conscious torment are considered alongside the case for conditional immortality and final destruction. This teaching concludes that the unrighteous consciously await judgment, receive punishment proportionate to their deeds, and ultimately experience the second death rather than being sustained forever in conscious torment.

Finally, we examine the rapture and the major questions surrounding its timing. We compare pretribulation, midtribulation, posttribulation, and prewrath interpretations while distinguishing persecution by the world and Antichrist from the judicial wrath of God.

The position defended here is historic premillennial and prewrath. The Church may experience persecution under the Antichrist, but believers are not appointed to God’s wrath. Christ will return, raise the dead, gather His people, judge evil, establish His reign, and ultimately renew creation.

Christian eschatology is not mainly about calculating dates or winning arguments over prophetic charts. It is about resurrection, divine justice, faithfulness during tribulation, the victory of Christ, and the restoration of creation under its rightful King.

In this teaching, we explore salvation, sanctification, perseverance, apostasy, and what Scripture means when it speaks about salvation as something already received, presently experienced, and ultimately completed in resurrection.

We begin by distinguishing justification, sanctification, and glorification. Justification concerns our standing before God through the finished work of Christ. Sanctification concerns our continuing conformity to Christ. Glorification is the completion of God's saving work when believers are raised to embodied, resurrection life.

From there, we turn to one of the most debated questions in Christian theology. Can salvation be lost?

Scripture contains powerful promises of security, including Jesus' words in John 10 that no one can snatch His sheep from His hand. But Scripture also contains serious warnings about perseverance and apostasy, especially in passages such as Hebrews 6 and Hebrews 10.

Rather than ignoring either group of passages, this teaching asks how divine security, genuine human freedom, perseverance, and the biblical warnings against falling away fit together. We also distinguish apostasy from ordinary Christian failure, doubt, temptation, sin, and temporary backsliding.

Finally, we examine what happens when a believer dies. The Christian enters the intermediate state in the presence of Christ while awaiting bodily resurrection. We consider the Bema Seat Judgment as an evaluation and refinement of the believer's works rather than a second judgment of Christ's saving work, and we follow that process toward resurrection and glorification.

The central principle throughout the teaching is that salvation rests upon Jesus Christ. Our works matter, sanctification matters, perseverance matters, and our choices matter, but none of these replaces Christ as the foundation of salvation.

Christian assurance therefore does not require us to ignore the warning passages, and taking the warnings seriously does not require us to live in constant fear that every failure has separated us from Christ.

What makes a human being a person?

In this teaching, we explore the biblical doctrine of the image of God, the major Christian models of human nature, and the relationship between spirit, soul, body, consciousness, and personhood.

We begin in Genesis with the imago Dei, examining humanity as both created in God's image and called to represent Him within creation. From there, we compare trichotomy, dichotomy, and naturalism, asking whether human beings are merely physical organisms or whether Scripture gives us reason to distinguish body, soul, and spirit.

We then move to the deeper question of personhood. Is a person defined by intelligence, memory, self-awareness, independence, or present consciousness? Or does personhood rest in something more fundamental?

This distinction has important implications for human dignity, the unborn, newborns, disability, dementia, coma, artificial intelligence, death and resurrection, and ultimately how we understand the Incarnation and the Trinity.
