Recently I realized just how woefully uneducated I am when it comes to the basic fundamentals of skin care. What products do I use? How often? In what order? Now that I’m a bit (gulp) older, I need to take better care of the skin I’m in, so I sought help.
Enter my guest, Morgan Davidson. In addition to her day job in the non-profit world, she’s also a makeup artist and a marketing professional who worked in the skin care industry, so she knows her stuff! Join us for this episode where we strip it all back to the bare necessities and build from there.
Oh - and if you find this discussion useful, be sure to watch for part two where we dive into the fundamentals of makeup! I’d envisioned covering both topics in one episode but when we’d barely scratched the surface of skin care near the hour mark, we knew a follow up episode made the most sense.
Enjoy!

It’s been a full year since I had bariatric surgery, and so much has changed since. In this episode I answer some commonly asked questions, outline what I’ve learned in the year that’s passed, and how I struggle to juxtapose the idea of body acceptance post drastic physical intervention.

I’ve talked a lot about my struggles with weight over the years and how recently, finally, I’ve developed a much healthier (for me) relationship with food. After purchasing this shirt and posting this picture, I received a question about how I can reconcile said claim after having had weight loss surgery. It was something I’d wrestled with myself - and I suspect she’s not the only one asking it - hence this episode !
So much to talk about when it comes to our relationship with food. If you’re interested in any of the following resources or are open to chatting with me, please let me know!

If we thought 2020 was hard, the first week of 2021 has taught us that nothing new or magical happens just because we flipped the calendar.
On this solo episode, I talk through the week that was, how I found it hard, and how I’m doing my best to not only cope, but to give myself some room to feel and process and just be. If nothing else, I hope we can all take solace in knowing that we’re not alone in our feelings of anger and frustration and fear and desperation given the events dominating our world right now.

We’re so close, friends! Almost out of 2020. Sure, nothing magical will happen on Friday when the calendar flips to 2021, but I for one will heave a great sigh of relief at even the illusion of a fresh start.
On this solo outing I look back on the year that was, talk about the changes it’s brought to my life, and how certain reflections (ie my Instagram Top 9) can be like punches to the gut. Add in some musing as to what my ‘word of the year’ should be for 2021, and we’ve got ourselves an episode. Would love to hear if you’re into the whole Top 9 or what your word of 2021 might be.
Thanks so much for joining me these past few months. Looking forward to some great conversations in 2021. All the best!

It’s been building for months and I had to get it off my chest.
I’m tired, y’all. I know we all are. So I turned to my pressure release valve - this podcast - to blow off my proverbial steam.
But since I’m really trying hard to not be all negative all the time, I split the episode up - 20 minutes of COVID ranting, and 20 minutes of COVID raving - raving about all of the amazing acts of charity and community that I’ve seen since the world dramatically changed.
I feel better already - hope you might, too. Feel free to vent right alongside me!

In mid-2017, Adina knew something wasn’t right. Sure enough, after months of advocating for a mammogram and hitting roadblocks at every turn, she was proven right.
But cancer didn’t stop this force of nature. Listen as Adina tells her story of how breast cancer impacted her life and be sure to heed the advice she has for women when it comes to respecting that little voice and what it might be trying to tell you.
Adina is always open to connecting with young women dealing with a breast cancer diagnosis. Please connect with her - really, truly! - via LinkedIn.

My mom was a fundraiser - it’s how I knew the field even existed. For years it was novel for me to say that I was a second generation fundraiser, because there just weren’t that many of us.
Well, that has changed. Significantly! And for the better.
Fundraising as a profession has come a long way since our parents started their careers, but what they did strongly influenced who we are and how we’ve approached philanthropy.

Guest Carmen Darley, owner of Carli D Paintings, joins me to discuss how art, quite literally, saved her life. After years of dealing with serious alcoholism, it was art (and lots of hard work) that allowed her to successfully find her way to lasting sobriety.
Listen as she describes what recovery has looked like, how running a business that has typically depended on in person workshops and the wedding industry has fared during COVID-19, and how being a mother to a toddler has shifted her priorities.
To add some beauty to your feed, follow Carmen on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/carlipaintings/
And if you’d like to participate in a virtual workshop offered by Carmen taking place via Zoom at 7pm on Thursday, December 10, find the details here! Cost is $30 for the materials (delivered to your home if you’re in Durham Region or shipped in Canada for an additional $6) and Carmen has kindly agreed to donate ALL proceeds to the important mental health work being done at the Ontario Shores Foundation.
