A Flexible Faith is a project aiming to create a theology of dialogue. Bonnie surveys the history of the Christian tradition to show how Christians have responded to life’s questions theologically. She presents topics from atonement theory to should Christians vote to women’s equality and offers various responses and discussion questions to help folks engage with one another. Also, throughout the chapters, Bonnie includes brief interviews with Christians from varied traditions such as Anabaptist, Pentecostal, Methodist, Womanist, Liberationist and many more. We discuss what sparked Bonnie’s interest in this project and how it has shaped her theology.

Bonnie is a political writer and author. She's an editor at The Week and a fellow at Defense Priorities. Her publications also appear on news outlets including Time, CNN, Politico, The Hill, Relevant Magazine, Rare, The American Conservative, and more. She holds a Masters in Christian Thought from Bethel Seminary. Bonnie recently came out with a new book entitled “A Flexible Faith” : Rethinking what it means to follow Jesus today. Caroline Leithner is a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Washington. She received a dual degree in nursing and theology from Vanderbilt University. She’s also an Episcopalian and has gone through a large portion of the ordination process but has put that part of her path on hold to pursue her career in health care. Caroline is insanely smart and an absolute delight of a person to be around. We discuss her religious upbringing in the church, her path to divinity school and nursing school and we begin to chat about how theology informs her nursing practice.

Kait is a doctoral candidate in systematic theology at the University of Aberdeen and the curator for the Barth Collection at Princeton Theological Seminary where she earned her Master of Divinity. In this episode, Kait and I get into her dissertation work on Paul’s apocalyptic theology on sin and death. This conversation ties in nicely from the previous episode about Kait’s encounter with the alt-right white supremicast groups in Charlottesville where she wrestled with questions of death and darkness in the form of racism.
