Even as adults, we are still vulnerable to the myths and misinformation perpetuated by society about body image and sexuality.
The added medium of social media only further challenges the way women and young people view themselves. It seems that only people who look a certain way are allowed to feel sexual, and enjoy sexual interactions.
In today’s episode, I am talking to Erica Kanewishcher, a licensed marriage and family therapist with over 15 years of experience who also teaches human sexuality to college undergrads.
During our conversation, Erica shares how the biggest myth women believe is that we must look a certain way to feel sexually valued. She discusses why it’s important to have a wider definition of sex, what mindset traps you need to avoid in order to have a more positive sexual experience, and how what we are exposed to at a young age informs our expectations of sex and sexual value as we get older.
