There are some natural rough spots in any endeavor, almost like it’s a law of nature and follows more or less the pattern of the musical scale. Do re mi fa so la ti do. Starting, sounding the “do,” everybody knows is hard. But what a lot of people don’t know is once you get started you feel good and everything going swimmingly for a while. And then, suddenly it all feels like it’s not working. You think maybe it’s a bad idea or you’re not doing it right. But it’s simply that you’ve hit the halftone between mi and fa. The half steps require a shift. It’s the shift that’s hard. We want smooth sailing rather than having to expend energy to tack into the process. So you have to put in a little extra effort to keep the process moving. And then things go forward swimmingly again until near the end when there’s that last little bit of effort that may sometimes feel like too much. But you need to finish, you need to hit the tonic.
