There once burned a fire
Back at the very beginning, when it seemed that they were winning
Long before he knew her only devotion was pledged to sinning
A hunger she passed as passion, took them so high till it went crashing
Her need for love was a veiled ruse for cash to keep her in fashion
Where once sat a cauldron filled with love
One he used to believe came from above
Just a cracked broken pot in a funeral pyre
Cold and lonely, but there once burned a fire
It went out with all her lies, a broken shell huddles alone and cries
Beat up, shunned and defecated, love suffocated, still he tries
Fixated on a memory of a glance, used with cunning to induce romance
Lying there gasping for air, his love begged one last chance
Where once sat a cauldron filled with love
One he used to believe came from above
Just a cracked broken pot in a funeral pyre
Cold and lonely, but there once burned a fire
His cries fell upon her deaf ears, like they had been doing for years
She kept the gaslight burning brightly to allay all of his fears
And when she grew tired of her game, with a tap of herfinger erased his name
Time for another to tickle her fancy, and then she will again do the same
Where once sat a cauldron filled with love
One he used to believe came from above
Just a cracked broken pot in a funeral pyre
Cold and lonely, but there once burned a fire
So sad to see it like this, cause there once burned a fire…
