Thermal power plants that use heat from deep inside the Earth are geothermal power plants
that are not typical of the Earth, which require large quantities of water to be heated by being
fed into the Earth's interior and then transported back up again to use the heat from the water
as a source of heat. This form of geothermal energy is mainly used for heating. For a number of
years it has been possible to operate power stations in this manner, which also generate
electricity. This is why it is also said that such geothermal power plants produce electricity from
the depths. So far, however, the development of geothermal energy in this wise has been
slower than hoped, which is why work is constantly being done to improve it so that the amount
of electricity and heat produced can be multiplied in the coming years. The market has in fact
developed much more slowly than expected, not least because of the very high initial costs and
the many risks involved in deep drilling. Particular attention must be paid to the increasing risk
of earthquakes caused by the injection of large quantities of water into the Earth's interior.
Nevertheless, further projects for the generation of electricity and heat from geothermal energy
