Dr. Matthew Stanford is the CEO of the Hope and Healing Center and Institute in Houston. He also serves as an adjunct professor of psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine and at the Methodist Hospital Institute for Academic Medicine. Dr. Melissa Cain Travis is an apologist who teaches in the Houston Baptist University School of Christian Thought. She is an author known for “Science and the Mind of the Maker: What the Conversation Between Faith and Science Reveals About God.” She was notably featured on the cover of Christianity Today in April 2015 beside other prominent female defenders of the faith. Moniaci oversees 17 men’s and women’s sports. During his time as director, HBU has transitioned back to NCAA Division I membership status, joined the Southland Conference, and started a football program which competes in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Abbey Hannah Brant is a class of 2019 Bachelor of Science in Nursing with Honors graduate, and has accepted a position with Houston Methodist West Hospital on the cardiovascular unit. Abbey Hannah has enjoyed membership in The Student Foundation, the Nursing Student Association, and House Augustine of the Honors College. She is a recipient of the HBU President’s Award.

 

Lindsey Moreno graduated in December of 2018 with honors and the highest GPA of the December graduates. During her time at HBU, she was a member of the Honors College and double-majored in Spanish and Classics. Outside of academics, Lindsey was involved on campus as a Husky ambassador, served on the leadership team with the Baptist Student Ministries, and worked for the Student Success Department running their social media. She now works as the program coordinator for First-Year Success. She is a recipient of the HBU President’s Award.

 

Marcella Fick is a class of 2019 Elementary Education major who has been a member of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society and Alpha Chi Honor Society. She has served as a member of the HBU cheerleading team and was the captain of the team during her junior and senior years. Fick was HBU’s 2018 Homecoming Queen and a recent recipient of the President’s Award, an honor given by President Sloan upon the recommendation of the Student Life Advisory Committee.

 

Jonathan Rangel-Salazar is a class of 2019 Education major with a Spanish certification for K-12. He was crowned Homecoming King in Fall 2017 and Mr. HBU in 2019. He served with the Baptist Student Ministries and started the first-ever Spanish Bible study, Profundo, at HBU. He served as a Husky Ambassador and was involved with the LSSI (Latino Student Success Initiative). Jonathan is the first person in his family to graduate from college.

 

David Kirkwood is an assistant professor of Music in the HBU School of Fine Arts. Professor Kirkwood’s primary teaching focus is vocal arts and opera. His areas of research and interest include sacred music, literature and musical aesthetics. He previously taught at Biola University.
