Happy 63rd Independence Day to all Nigerians!

Welcome back to this special episode the Think BIG for Africa Podcast. The specialness is not just because today is Nigeria's (my native nation) independence day, but also because of my guest; Biodun Ogunlabi.  Biodun is one of my oldest friends and classmates (going back 40 years) in secondary and the university and he was my very first guest on the Think BIG for Africa Podcast. Nana is a farmer and in his spare time, he runs a history page on Facebook with tens of thousands of young Africans. I sat down with him a few weeks ago and had a 3 hours conversation. In this conversation, we focused mostly on education specifically the impact of colonialism in Africa and the languages of instruction in African schools. It was a back-and-forth debate which in the end no clear conclusion. Overall, it was a necessary conversation worth having.

Welcome back to the Think BIG for Africa Podcast. In today’s episode, my guest Helen Emore (Ph.D.). Helen is an Entrepreneur, a Business Development Consultant, and a Lecturer at the Pan Atlantic University. Helen helps entrepreneurs to resolve business development challenges primarily in the Agribusiness sector. Helen describes herself as a “Portfolio Worker”. She is thankful to be able to do what is important to her at this time, helping entrepreneurs.

Our conversation started with Helen describing her consultancy work, and how she helps entrepreneurs and business owners with their challenges;  self-awareness, and industry knowledge. She explained the benefits of knowledge sharing on social media and the impact of education and mentorship on success. The importance and benefits of storytelling, Branding, Brand Value, and Brand Equity. The biggest challenges facing Africa are education and leadership. 

My big takeaway was Helen’s encouraging young Africans to stop the externalization of Africa’s problems. To see the enormous opportunities that are present everywhere in our communities and to take responsibility. Helen also talked about the power of focus and discipline.

I'm happy to welcome back a favorite guest Korede Adedoyin to discuss one of my favorite topics; education.  Korede is the Founder & Senior Operations Manager of Vemoye Foundation with the goal of “Raising Africa's Future Workforce”. We started our conversation with a bang by briefly discussing the localization of universal concepts by using local examples for children to relate. Then Korede shared how the values of her Christian background are her guide in all things, and I also shared my unconventional spiritual journey.

Then we discussed the non-existent African education systems, affirmative action and its impact on society, touched on the Marxification of education (book), and ended with an expansive exploration of the censorship of language by youths and schools, and the role of social media in creating overly TRIGGERED and intolerant people.

Therefore, I will seek and bring all kinds of educators to this platform.  In today’s episode, my guest is David Ogunshola. David is an 'intersectionist', creating multi-sector brilliance expressed through tech, education, business & faith. An internationally recognized innovation catalyst driven by a mission to lower the age of innovators in Africa. David is a STEM Coach and co-founded Brainy Hive Schools, an innovative K-12 school providing world-class, balanced, and future-driven education to middle-income families starting from Uyo, Nigeria. 

In our conversation, we discussed many interesting topics and issues including; How and why David evolved from a software engineer to an Educator and children innovation catalyst, His catch them young program, focused in help young people become entrepreneurs by the age of 16. How David developed the first STEM curriculum for children in Africa. We also explored the need for African countries to prioritize the education of their youths and the need for us to do more work in basic science and not only rely on technology. 

We also discussed how the lack of motivation and strong beliefs disenables the fight in many young Africans, why many of us don’t like exploring difficult questions, and the implications. David also gave us his fantastic book recommendations for our libraries. Finally, David made it clear that no one is coming to save Africa and encouraged us to open our minds thereby opening our eyes to opportunities all around us.

Today on the Think BIG for Africa Podcast, I’m having a real pub talk with a very passionate Nana Kyidomhene. Nana is a proud cattle farmer, who on the side also runs a Facebook page with thousands of young African followers. On this page, he shares and talks about African history, and this is exactly what we talked about for hours. 

Our conversation was so brotherly that the hours flew by. However, in this episode, I’m only sharing with you the first hour where we went back and forth on several topics like European claims of discovering African rivers,  African exploration across the Atlantic, and writing.

Denu Bon is fresh out of university, and currently going through the Nigerian National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program. He is an up-rising business magnate, founder, and chairman of two thriving startups, GoLoko Diaries Ltd (a media and publishing company) and Denu's Money Circle (a financial accountability circle incorporated as Denu's Circle Ltd).

In our conversation, we explored basic not well-understood or accepted truths about personal and societal success, especially by young people. Denu is definitely punching above his young age in his beliefs, ideas, and in his implementations. Denu believes in total dedication to his craft.
