👉 In the opening segment, we discuss the article published in Nature Journal entitled "The impact of digital media on children’s intelligence while controlling for genetic differences in cognition and socioeconomic background." Yeah, it's a mouthful, but it talks about quite an interesting aspect of child development, namely the effect of digital media exposure on children's intelligence. We discuss the implications for the future of AI and the contrast with past methods of learning before the emergence of the internet.

👉 In the main segment, we discuss Jean Paul Sartre's "The Wall" ("Le Mur" in the original french). It is considered one his most noteworthy existentialist works of fiction. In the episode, we discuss the first short story, which shares its name with the book, and the psychological progression of the characters. The main theme of the story is the immense barrier between life and death, hence "The Wall".

👉 We begin by discussing our favorite philosophers. It should come as no surprise for long time viewers that Chris’ pick is Socrates, but he finally gives more insight into the specific reasons for his pick. Alex, staying loyal to his brand of indecision, picks two philosophers: Marcus Aurelius and Aristotle. It seems as though the boys have a penchant for the Greeks.

👉 In the main segment, we discuss a summary of “The Ethics of Belief" by William K. Clifford. Despite our best attempt at coherently describing what goes on in this article, we end up going on tangents about our occasional problems with philosophy as a discipline. These tangents comically end up being more interesting than the article itself.

In the opening segment, we discuss Rosenhan's influential study in the anti-psychiatrist movement of the 1970s, "On Being Sane in Insane Places." We discuss the modern implications of what we consider to be the main problem Rosenhan identifies in early psychiatry: confirmation bias.

In the main segment, we discuss Very Bad Wizards' "Episode 139: Honor, Identity, and Headbutts." The episode discusses Tamler Sommers' book "Why Honor Matters", which is essentially a defense of honor cultures and some practices that may at first appear irrational to people from dignity cultures. We discuss how the search for identity is influences by culture in addition to Zinedine Zidane's classic headbutt.

In this episode, we start by discussing Freud's original discussion of Freudian slips. Specifically, we discuss the chapter entitled "The Psychology of Errors" in Freud's "Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis".

In the main segment, we discuss Thomas Nagel's famous "What is it like to be a bat?" In this essay, he brings awareness to the flawed assumption that science will one day demystify the conscious experience of other species, and even casts doubt on how much we objectively know our own experience. This is an important take on the mind-body problem and will inevitably have ripples for the future of neuroscience and AI.

P.S. When Chris was saying "thunder" in the episode, he meant "lightning". Words are not easy.

In the second segment, we discuss Tal Yarkoni's "The Generalizability Crisis", which delves into our recurrent topic of psychology's flaws. Instead of coming from the outside as it usually does with Chris, this time the attacks come from the inside of the field, and we (finally) get a competent critique of the misuse of statistics and inferential logic in the field of psychology.
