Enrique Rubio is an Electronic Engineer, Fulbright Scholar and holds a graduate degree in Public Administration. Over the past 20 years he’s worked in technology & human resources, exploring workplace digitisation, and the intersection of the future of work, technology & HR.

His passions led him to found HackingHR, an online global community of HR & business leaders, practitioners, consultants, and technologists.

We've become good friends; business partners, on the strength of our shared values. And we, like anyone listening to this podcast, have been impacted by the global covid19 pandemic. 

We originally hopped on an impromptu LinkedIn LIVE event to connect with our community. And before, long it only made sense to press the record button. 

This wasn't scripted, or planned. You can tell by my audio that I’m not in front of my favourite podcast mic. Though over the next thirty-plus minutes, we cover a lot of ground. From how we're each individually approaching self care and discipline under quarantine, to the importance of creating clear social contracts to ensure a respectable integration of work and life.

Mark Metry, the author of ‘’Screw Being Shy’, believes that communicating your authentic self to others is crucial to achieving success, and counts himself among the 40%-60% of people who report being uncomfortable in social situations. My anecdotal research tells me the number is closer to 100%.  

Tackling a difficult subject, social anxiety, head-on, Mark has curated over 50 scientific references about mental health, social anxiety, and personal transformation. Though it’s the personal anecdotes Mark includes, that bring this book to life. 

I’d use another word to describe Mark: ‘resilient’. His experience tells him that life’s challenges are best faced head-on. So it should come as no surprise that he’s taking the broader view when discussing the challenges of having your first book launch coincide with the proliferation of a global pandemic. 

‘Perhaps the timing has never been more appropriate to discuss social anxiety?’  Feeling largely isolated growing up, Mark turned inward which led to myriad health issues, including asthma, insomnia, and gastrointestinal ailments which together zapped his physical energy. 

The isolation many of us are feeling now isn’t the same. It isn’t all that much different. And Mark has developed a framework that works for him. The same framework that has resulted in Mark being a Forbes Featured keynote speaker, podcast host and strategist. In total, his thoughts, views, podcasts, and videos have been viewed over 50+ Million times, featured in the likes of Forbes, Influencive, Inc, Huffington Post, Fearless Motivation, and on over 100 radio and podcast shows. His Humans 2.0 podcast reached #96 globally on August 16, 2018. 

For those grappling with social anxiety, or know someone who may be, particularly as we move from an in-person modality to a virtual one, this is a podcast worth checking out.

She has authored a 100+ articles and her research is funded by the National Institutes of Health. The World Health Organisation (WHO) recently recognised her expertise by inviting her to lead a team of authors in publishing recommendations for healthy hearing and ageing in the World Report on Ageing and Health. In our present circumstances, we find it hard to distinguish reality from hyperbole. The 24 news cycle, social media & an increasingly-connected world conspire to inundate our senses.

In contrast, our present circumstances have made it easy to distinguish the important from the convenient. People are afraid, uncertain & narrowing their focus. To health, family and loved ones. 

And yet, time marches on, as many organisations begin their first weeks as digital enterprises supported by a dispersed network of remote workers. Leaders must learn to design, develop and communicate goals; manage performance & drive engagement using a technological interface. Employees must learn to collaborate, align, and support one another in service to collective, agile goals. 

We use our time to discuss how best to make these transitions. How best to support organisations, their leaders & employees in navigating the largest digital transformation initiative of our time.
