The AI Buildout Has Three Toll Booths. Which One Is Mispriced? ⛏️

Forget picking the next chatbot winner. This week we're digging where the money actually gets collected — three picks-and-shovels plays on the AI infrastructure buildout: the networking chips, the data-center power and cooling, and the machines that make the chips. Each one's off its highs. Each one has a real moat.

Three cards. Owned numbers. No assigned sides — just data and debate. Bring your disagreement to the table.

  • $192B in One Day: AI Real or Bubble?

    Send us Fan Mail

This week's Sunday Debate — 3 rounds, no assigned sides, just numbers.

1️⃣ Stocks at a record. Bonds screaming 2007.
S&P's 0.7% off an all-time high — while the 10-year Treasury just hit 5.18%, its highest since 2007. Stocks are betting the future is great. Bonds are betting the future is expensive. Who's lying?

2️⃣ Meta made $192 BILLION in one day. AI: real or bubble?
Their AI app Muse hit #1 on the App Store, stock ripped 11.3% in a single session. That's ~$68,000 of market value per download. Meanwhile they're spending $130–145B on AI data centers this year. Best money ever spent... or the most expensive?

3️⃣ Record debt vs. record spending.
Credit card balances just hit $1.26T, delinquencies at their worst since 2011 — and retail sales STILL jumped 1.2% in August. Broke or balling? Both can't be the whole story.

  • First Rate Hike In 3 Years. Then AI Ended The World...

    Send us Fan Mail

Last week a tweet about the end of the world got 165 million views and the
Federal Reserve raised interest rates for the first time in three years. Only
one of those two things showed up on your statement.

Wolf and D Waugh break down what the hike actually does to what you pay, what
the AI doomsday story was really about, and the three companies we each like most right now. We're not telling you what to buy.

    📊 THE RECEIPTS
    → FOMC, September 16: target range raised 25bp to 3.75%–4.00%, 12–0, no
dissents — the first increase since 2023, with at least one more signaled
      (federalreserve.gov)
→ The AI resignation thread that started it: 165M+ views inside a week
→ Monday, September 14: chip stocks led the Nasdaq down 0.5%, Nvidia off more
than 2% on fears the AI buildout slows
→ By Friday that chip selloff had recovered. Week ending September 18:
      S&P 500 −0.1% · Dow −1.7% · Nasdaq +0.7% · 10-year Treasury near 5%

  • 68% Of Congress Lost To The Fund That's In Your 401(k)

    Send us Fan Mail

Four arguments, two chairs. The president's accounts made 1,051 trades in one month and we found out 53 days later. Most of Congress still lost to a plain index fund. Day trading is a real skill that almost nobody wins at. And the AI boom is already inside your 401(k) whether you voted for it or not. So who's actually playing you?

Free in the Discord: THE 45-DAY SHEET — one page, three lookups you can run tonight. How to pull any politician's filed trades yourself (free, public), why you always see them ~45 days late, and the three lines on your own fund page that show how much of your retirement is riding on one chip company. $0, no course.

    CHAPTERS
    00:00  Cold open
01:32  1,051 trades in June — should politicians be allowed to trade?
12:19  Can a regular person actually get rich day trading?
20:40  AI: boom or bubble — and is it already in your 401(k)?
28:53  The part nobody has an answer for: bond yields and the debt
    30:38  Nvidia's quarter, and $72.80 of every $1,000
40:38  What we're each watching right now — and why
    57:17  Discord + outro

THE DISCLOSURE GAP IS THE WHOLE STORY
On Aug 22, 2026 the Office of Government Ethics published a filing showing 1,051 securities transactions in President Trump's investment accounts during June — totaling somewhere between $78.1M and $263.1M, because federal filings report ranges, not exact amounts. The single largest line was a June 22 sale of $5M–$25M of a Vanguard ETF. Names in the filing included Berkshire Hathaway, Visa, Mastercard, Cintas, Palantir, Coinbase and Home Depot. The White House says the accounts are run by independent third-party managers and that Trump doesn't direct the trades. (U.S. OGE filing via Bloomberg, Fortune, CNBC, Aug 22–24, 2026)

Here's the part that matters for you: under the STOCK Act the disclosure window is about 45 days AFTER the trade. The law makes them tell you. It doesn't stop the trade, and it doesn't tell you in time. June activity, August filing. If your plan is to copy the filings, you're structurally two months late every single time.

THE STAT THAT RUINS THE "THEY ALL BEAT THE MARKET" STORY
Per Unusual Whales' 2025 congressional report: of 311 disclosed portfolios, 100 beat the S&P 500's 16.8% return. That's 32.2% — which means 211 members of Congress, 67.8%, lost to the index. Republicans averaged 17.3%, Democrats 14.4%. Sitting in a plain S&P 500 fund all year and doing nothing would have beaten roughly two out of three members of Congress. The unfair part isn't the returns. It's the conviction — knowing the catalyst lets you size the position, and size is where the advantage actually lives.

CAN A REGULAR PERSON GET RICH DAY TRADING?
Chague, De-Losso and Giovannetti tracked 19,646 Brazilians who stuck with day trading equity index futures for 300+ trading days. 97% lost money. 1.1% earned more than minimum wage. 0.5% — one in two hundred — earned more than a bank teller's starting salary. Barber, Lee, Liu and Odean ran 15 years of complete Taiwan Stock Exchange data: under 1% earned reliably positive returns net of fees. And the finding nobody quotes: no evidence traders improve with practice. 300-day veterans performed like first-month beginners. It's a real skill. The base rate is just brutal, and the fix in this episode is position sizing, not prediction.

AI IS ALREADY IN YOUR 401(K) — THAT PART ISN'T A DEBATE
$72.80 of every $1,000 in an S&P 500 fund sits in Nvidia alone (7.28% weight). The top 10 companies are 2% of the holdings and 38.7% of the money. Nvidia's July quarter: $96.2B revenue, up 106% year over year, 92.5% of it from data centers. Next quarter's guidance is $108B — about $1.17 billion a day. You didn't pick that. You can't vote it out. Whether it's a bubble is the argument; whether you're in it isn't. (Nvidia Q2 FY2027 release, Aug 26, 2026, via CNBC; index weights per Slickcharts)

WHAT WE'RE EACH WATCHING, AND WHY
Six names, and the reason each one is on the list — the moat, the backlog, the margin, the thing that would take it back off. Not picks, not targets, not entries. Do your own research and talk to a licensed advisor.

    THE LANDING
Two lanes, and they never touch. Credit and business: fix the score, borrow cheaper, unlock funding when you actually need capital. Investing: earned income only, through the brokerage, on a schedule. Never margin. Never borrowed money in the market.

Come argue with us in the Discord.
