  • Importance of Sewer Cleanouts and Upkeep (Condo Insider)

Sewer Cleanout, Sewer Maintenance.  The host for this show is Raelene Tenno.  The guest is Bobby Perkins.

Let's talk Sewer! Why is it important to clean the sewer drains?  Gunk or debris accumulate in the drains such as dirt, grease, soap scum, hair, clumped paper (to name a few) or just sediment from the pipes.  Wet wipes disposed into the sewer lines are another big headache that have caused blockages and sewer backups into homes, leading to very costly repairs to include sanitizing the area.   Sewer maintenance can involve the use of a camera to identify the blockage as it could be tree roots, too. Learn how to properly maintain our sewer drains and most importantly what not to dispose of into the sewer lines.

  • Winter Electricity Stress, Load Shedding (Perspectives on Energy)

How Prepared Are we for this Winter.  The host for this show is Guillermo Sabatier.

As winter gets into full swing, memory of recent capacity events reminds us how vulnerable we can still be when it comes to electric utilities and energy supplies. The Texas and ERCOT cold weather event still fresh, and given the near miss California experienced, questions abound regarding the energy sector's readiness for cold weather peak demand.

  • Changes Needed for DHHL to Spend 600M (Talking Tax)

Legislative Bills Addressing Bottlenecks.  The hosts for this show are Jay Fidell and Tom Yamachika.

Last year’s Legislature approved $600 million to our Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) to reduce the monstrous waiting list of Hawaiians waiting for homestead lands.  The catch, however, is that DHHL needs to spend the money, or enter into a contract to spend it, by June 30, 2025.  Otherwise, the money goes back to the general fund.

On December 6, 2022, DHHL published a strategic plan to accomplish this lofty goal.  In that plan, it noted that Act 279, SLH 2022, the legislative act appropriating the money, also required the agency to submit to the legislature by December 10th any proposed legislation that the agency considered necessary or desirable.

The legislative proposals, although they may be thought of as a wish list, seem to take direct aim at several key items that impede housing development today.

  • 'The Last Rhinos' by Lawrence Anthony (World of Books)

Battles to Save World's Greatest Creatures.  The host for this show is Mihaela Stoops.  The guest is Maribeth Theisen.

Maribeth Theisen, a Maui psychotherapist that has been fascinated by wildlife since childhood, introduces us to the world of conservation efforts and its challenges, particularly with rhinoceros and cheetahs. Some may roll their eyes at the suggestion to read a book on conservation, but Lawrence Anthony's book reads like a thriller, with many ups and downs and unexpected situations; one enjoys the descriptions of the natural beauty of Africa, the animals and their connection to humans, as well as the history and political conflicts in several African countries. One learns how to navigate the labyrinth of the bureaucracy related to conservation efforts. But more importantly, one can only be inspired to do more, after reading about the dedication of a small group of people to save the last of a species.

  • Twitter: Home Sweet Home for Extremist MAGA (American Issues Take One)

The New Wild West of Social Media.  The hosts for this show are Tim Apicella and Jay Fidell.  The guest is Jeff Portnoy.    Elon Musk owns Twitter lock stock and barrel. The first thing he does is terminate those employees that monitor content, hate speech. With his philosophy that there will be few limitations of the First Amendment--free speech--content monitoring is an inconvenient overhead expense. Since his purchase, slurs against Black Americans increased to 3,876 posts per day from 1,282. Antisemitic posts soared 61% in the first two weeks. Slurs against gay men averaged 2,506 prior to Musk's purchase. It now stands at an average of 3,964 posts. QAnon groups paid for Twitter's stamp of approval for 'verified status'. They received it. Trump's Twitter posts to encourage the MAGA GOP is no longer needed. Extremist hate groups are doing just fine on their own, thanks to Elon.  The ThinkTech YouTube Playlist for this show is https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQpkwcNJny6kJ276rzD7XCodasnTPPCOG  Please visit our ThinkTech website at https://thinktechhawaii.com and see our Think Tech Advisories at https://thinktechadvisories.blogspot.com.
