Happy New Year everybody and welcome back to Third and Long. It feels good to be the number 1 seed in the NFC after another big win against the Commanders. I’m not lying when I say this is the best 49er team that I have been on since entering the league and our guy Brock Purdy bounced back last game in a big way. What is it like to sit out with injury and how have I been supporting my teammates from the sideline? Got to give a big shout out to the 49er faithful for all the support this year and be ready for us to get busy in the playoffs.

It was definitely an emotional game and took a crazy turn when my guy Dre Greenlaw got ejected but I couldn’t be more proud with how we performed on both sides of the ball. My 49er teammate Nick Bosa joins us for this episode of Third and Long! This man is an issue on the field and deservedly took home last year’s Defensive Player of the Year Award. What is it like to sign a massive contract and how do you deal with the pressure associated with it? What is it like to play with his college teammate Chase Young and are Sacks an overrated stat? Nick also talks about some of the guys he thinks are the best Defensive Ends in the league and who he likes to watch. Everybody handles their bye week differently but it truly is the perfect time to just relax and prepare for the second half of the season. It was hard to relax after we made the move for Chase Young! A second overall pick and Defensive Rookie of the year back in 2020, everybody knows how dangerous this man is off the edge. What will his chemistry be like with former Ohio State teammate Nick Bosa and is he the final piece we need to get us to the Super Bowl? The focus has now shifted to this week’s matchup against the Jags and this is the perfect opportunity for us to get back on track.

Week 8 of the season is in the books and after another hard fought game, we unfortunately lost our third in a row. Joe Burrow was really doing his thing as their Offense did a great job of mixing it up against us. Even though I saw some success and had two sacks, I wish we came away with a win. What is the mindset throughout the organization when you are in the midst of a losing streak and how can we look to bounce back? There were a lot of expectations put on this team this year and we truly believe we have what it takes to not only get back into our winning form but to go on a run!

Losing in the NFL can leave a bad taste in your mouth but the only thing we are thinking about now is that next matchup. I think people forget how hard it is to win in the NFL and there is a reason why people say “Any Given Sunday.” Kirk Cousins was cooking and we’ll face more great quarterbacks down the road so we’ll take the lessons learned from this game and bounce back. Joe Burrow and the Bengals have a good team but they better be ready because this is a huge opportunity for us to get back into the win column.
