Living with Difference with Joel Korte
This month’s episode is a discussion with Joel Korte. He founded a pedal company called Chase Bliss and also lives with a stutter. This was such a great conversation where we talked about so many different things. music, inspiration porn, and Joel was interested in my journey, so we talked a bit about my life. Take a listen!!!
Teaching With Accommodations is a conversation I had with Amanda Simmons about how they teach students while always keeping in mind how to accommodate students without creating shame.
Living With Nuerodivergnece is a discussion I had with Ricky Pollo. He is a high school physics teacher, drummer, and bipolar.
This is a discussion with three people who live with chronic illness and pain. We talk about how we manage our lives and the frustrations of having a drive our bodies cannot keep up with.
This is part 3 of a discussion I have been having with Vickey Young, a disabled woman who is trying to go to get her accommodations to go to law school and the incredible amount of work she has to do to overcome the obstacles she faces to something that is her rights to have. It is shocking that after nearly 40 years after disabled people have fought to have their rights to an education, it is shocking to hear how much ableism she deals with to get her rights.
We had a great discussion with Jess Speer on The 103.3 Asheville FM show Open Air about how we must look at disability now, our new disabled ancestor Judy Heumann the Mother of Disability Rights, and how disability is part of the human experience, like being born and dying.
n this episode, Vickey Young and I discuss our experiences with doctors and how frustrating it can be when you are knowledgeable about your condition. Still, you need a doctor to help you manage your disability to continue to be a productive disabled person in your community.
Affiliated on Asheville FM. Eric Carring, Habanero, and Priya Ray of DIYabled talk about how we can solve the issue of disabled people participating in their communities so they can go to school, work, have housing, and participate in social activities.
Amanda Harrinauth is a life coach, poet, and fantastic person. I was honored to be able to take some time to get to know her better. As a disabled person who has had to navigate life, she shows us how perseverance and having a positive outlook on life can lead to great things. Besides being a spokesperson for the Special Olympics, most recently Amanda was acknowledged by Joe Biden for her poetry after being told her poetry was not poetry. This episode of This Crip Life is called “I am Amanda!!”
Accommodations are very important when you are disabled. It is the way we are able to have the same equality as non-disabled people. I got together with Vickey for part 2 where and she and I talk about what her personal experiences are right now with the accommodations that are necessary for her to go to law school.
