One of the most inconsistent practices for many Christians is to spend time daily with God.  Each day the responsibilities of our lives pull us in many directions, often away from God.

And yet making time to build a vibrant relationship with God is what we need to face our day.  If we are going to grow into the men and women God is calling us to become, we must take time to sit down and sharpen our ax.

When our ax gets dull we spend twice as much energy to produce half the results.

Even Jesus spent time away in prayer:

And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. – Mark 1:35

Have you ever been mid-prayer and realized it’s been a repeat of, “Jesus, help ME…guide ME…restore ME…teach ME…bless ME…”?

While there’s certainly nothing wrong with praying for ourselves, there are so many great benefits to praying for other people.

Like most life-changing and eye-opening lessons in life, I learned this truth on one of my bad days.

“I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” Luke 22:32

3 During the forty days after he suffered and died, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. And he talked to them about the Kingdom of God.  - Acts 1:3

The 40 days between Jesus’ resurrection and His ascension are some of the most significant days of his life, but often the least talked about.

In his resurrected body he could walk and talk and eat with those he appeared to, showing he was physically alive. Also, he was able to appear and disappear from sight, even behind closed doors.

During these 40 days Jesus was publicly announcing to the world he had risen from the dead. He also had other plans.

As you’ll see in the events listed below, Jesus makes a point to reconcile with his disciples and commission them to take his saving message to the world.

These are the events between Jesus’ resurrection and ascension into heaven:

• Jesus’ Resurrection (Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24, John 20)
• Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene
• Jesus Appears to the Women
• Jesus Appears to Two Believers on the Road to Emmaus
• Jesus Appears to Peter
• Jesus Appears to the Apostles Behind Locked Doors
• Jesus Appears to the Apostles, Including Thomas
• Jesus Provides a Miraculous Catch of Fish
• Jesus Reconciles with Peter
• Jesus Commissions His Disciples to Teach and Baptize All Nations
• Jesus Appears to More Than 500 People at the Same Time
• Jesus Appears to James
• Jesus Ascends into Heaven
