It was just 70 years ago today, September 13, 1951, when the US Army’s 2nd Infantry Division attacked Communist positions on Heartbreak Ridge. Continuing the offensive to straighten out the front line and take the high ground, Heartbreak was next after Bloody Ridge and the Punchbowl on the eastern half of the front in Korea. The North Korean and Chinese soldiers were dug in deep and determined to hold their ground. So much artillery was fired it created a shortage of ammunition.
