The Prescott Valley Police Department will officially launch its Dog Walker Watch (DWW) program this spring! Dog walkers are invited to join us on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 4pm in the PD Training Room at 7601 E Skoog Blvd for our informative launch session.

Developed by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), Dog Walker Watch trains dog owners and walkers to recognize and report suspicious activity while out in their neighborhoods. The program operates in more than 2,000 communities nationwide and is a simple, cost-effective way to enhance neighborhood safety.

Participants will attend a free, one-hour training session to learn what behaviors to watch for, such as individuals looking into vehicles or mailboxes, unusual vehicle activity, and suspicious door-to-door encounters. The focus is on awareness and reporting, not confrontation.

The 2026 Prescott Rally is scheduled for March 27–28, 2026, in Prescott Valley, Arizona, bringing teams together for two days of rally competition. Part of the ARA Western Region Championship, the rally will feature approximately 120 miles of stages across technical and fast roads made up mainly of gravel, with rocky and sandy sections. Prescott Valley is now home to Arizona’s first Freedom Rock, a painted monument honoring veterans and their stories of service. The project is part of a nationwide effort started in Iowa by artist Ray “Bubba” Sorenson to place Freedom Rocks in all 50 states. Located at the Prescott Valley Civic Center, the massive 38,000-pound rock features artwork honoring figures like Pat Tillman and the Navajo Code Talkers. The monument was made possible through strong community support, donations, and volunteers. Visitors can stop by anytime, with committee members often available on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to share the history behind the rock.

The Prescott Valley Police Department is warning residents about a new scam involving fraudulent text messages. Citizens have reported receiving texts claiming to be from the State of Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles, threatening penalties if traffic tickets are not paid.

In Arizona, there is no Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), the correct agency is the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD). References to the “State of Arizona Administrative Code 15C-16.003” in these texts are also a red flag, this code does not exist and is commonly used in scams.

The links provided in these messages are fraudulent, even though they display official-looking logos. Recipients are shown what appears to be a valid citation, but it does not include details like the location of the alleged violation. While the payment option may look official, the site is fake, and links at the bottom of the page do not function.

The PVPD encourages citizens simply delete these messages immediately. This scam is designed to use fear and intimidation to steal your money. Do not respond or click on any links.

The City of Surprise is offering a paid summer internship program for income-eligible Surprise teens between the ages of 15 and 19. Applications are being accepted now through March 16. Through the City Council-approved Summer Youth Internship Program (SYIP), applicants must be available to work up to 25 hours a week for six consecutive weeks, starting June 8. The Yavapai Softball team came out strong this weekend during their Home Opener, where they were able to sweep Central Arizona and win all four of their contests! Game 1 In this close opening game, Yavapai defeated their ACCAC rival 3-2 with a walk-off double from Avree Rhodes at the bottom of the 7th inning! Besides Rhodes' double, Danica Kern and Tamryn Tucker were each able to tally an RBI as well. Do you care about the safety of your neighborhood? Are you attentive to concerns on your street and interested in building stronger connections with your neighbors? The Prescott Valley Police Department is currently seeking dedicated residents to serve as Block Watch captains in neighborhoods throughout the community.

A Block Watch is a collaborative partnership between residents and the police department focused on preventing crime, enhancing neighborhood safety, and improving overall quality of life. Block Watch captains play a vital leadership role by encouraging communication among neighbors, identifying and addressing safety concerns, and serving as a liaison between the community and Prescott Valley Police Department.

Responsibilities of a Block Watch captain include:

• Organizing and leading neighborhood meetings
• Facilitating discussions about safety and crime prevention
• Establishing and maintaining communication networks among residents
• Sharing timely information about crime trends and public safety concerns

Block Watch programs help deter criminal activity while fostering a safer, more connected community.
