It was just 160 years ago today, September 3, 1861, when Confederate forces under General Leonidas Polk invaded Columbus, Kentucky, in an effort to push the state in deciding what side of the Civil War it would support. As the Nation split into blue and grey, four states had remained neutral, Maryland, Delaware, Missouri, and Kentucky. Each state had slaves, but didn’t want to secede.
