On July 1st, 1863, one of the largest military conflicts in North American history started when Union and Confederate forces collided at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The epic battle lasted three days and resulted in a retreat to Virginia by Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia. But in all the history books and movies made about this infamous period, there is rarely much romanticized about how much the weather played in it’s events; today we do that, This Day in Weather History.
