  • EP 039: There is POWER in the Flower with guest Melanie Fernandez

On this episode, This Girl... Daisy introduces momprenuer, founder and creative director, Melanie Fernandez, whom created House of Lilac, a flower company and lifestyle brand.  Melanie and Daisy share insightful conversation how this girl, Melanie, took the leap of faith and left her comfortable corporate job as an attorney in order to follow her intuition and passion.

Melanie and Daisy have a candid and honest conversation about her entrepreneurial journey.  She shares with us that House of Lilacdid not start of as a flower company, but more as a personal blog that turned into a gifting company then organically transformed into a flower company and lifestyle content brand. With her type A personality and entrepreneurial spirit, Melanie kept on creating more creative content on her instagram, website and blog.  This yearning to share and help woman beautify their homes in very simple manners, led to DIY (do it yourself) workshops, and the creation of a community of woman that wanted to gather and support each other while being in a creative environment.

Once again, Melanie responded to her clients’ needs and created the Flower Club.  The Flower Club consists of weekly emails filled with inspirational content from journal prompts to self-care articles (these are free) since she wants to excite woman to step into their POWER in order to fully BLOOM!

Melanie confesses that the journey has not been easy but totally worth it.  She has been 100% led by her intuition, and encourages others to trusts their gut.

  • EP 038: Love yourSELF! with your host Daisy Blanchard

Love is in the air this month and This Girl… Daisy, reminds you to love yourself and wants to fill your LOVE tank!   With intention, Daisy asks you to take a pause in your day to reflect, preferably write down, what you truly LOVE to do?  She challenges you (that besides loving your hubby and kids that for most of us this in on the top of the list of things we love to do) to be more introspective and search within a little deeper, and really remember at least 5 things that you LOVE to do?  Then ask yourself, when was the last time you did any of the things on that list?

For some, this exercise is not as easy as it sounds since with motherhood, moms have a high tendency to forget about themselves since they are primarily giving to others.  Daisy shares with her listeners some of the top things that she loves to do, and in fact you can probably guess some them (such as dance) since she works hard on making time for her self and intentionally shares her posts on her instagram @pocketfulofdaisy especially on Friday favorites to spark that reminder.

She also reviews Gary Chapman’s Love Languages, since she is keen that this can be a game changer in your relationships; not only with your partner but with your children too.  If this is the first time you hear about Love Languages, there are five love languages: words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, quality time and physical touch.  Everyone gives and receives in a special language, and if you know which one is your loved ones it truly strengthen your relationships and makes them more meaningful. She invites you to take the quiz available on Gary Chapman’s website, to find out your Love language: https://www.5lovelanguages.com

To better serve her mom listeners, our host Daisy along with Gaby Martinez-Fonts from Mindful Wisdom Now, invite you to make a date with yourself & attend their upcoming workshop dedicated to self love.  This is part of their Grit, Grace & Gratitude woman gatherings to be held on Thursday, Febraury 27th in the evening.   At this workshop, they will guide you through an interactive gathering consisting of movement, wisdom and mindfulness. Since there is no instruction manual or road map when you become a mom; the “Grit, Grace & Gratitude” workshops will give you real life shared experiences, tips, tools, and strategies to become a better mom, better wife, and simply a better YOU!  For more details about the workshop visit Daisy’s instagram or Gaby’s insta account @mindfulwisdomnow

  • EP 037: Seeking 2020 Vision...setting your eyes on the prize with special guest Gaby Martinez-Fonts

This girl, Daisy Blanchard, is fully illuminated and excited to kick off her third season with clarity and focus especially since she is joined with her soul sister, Gaby Martinez Fonts, mindfulness ambassador and founder of Mindful Wisdom Now.  Together they created a tradition for the past 3 years to create vision boards, and on this episode, they reflect and share their personal growth journey on how the vision boards have been a positive creative tool in manifesting their dreams, one year at a time.

Although some might think that vision boards are bogus, for these two inspirational women, it has proved that the power of visualization can really work. Daisy & Gaby both believe in the “law of attraction” and visualizing goals and dreams daily, can send a powerful frequency into the Universe.

As they briefly reviewed their vision boards, Gaby explains some mindfulness practice techniques in achieving more clarity while creating your board.  They both agree that the beauty of vision boards is that there are no rules, and you can create what is right for you using images, words of affirmation, pictures, and embellishments like glitter and stickers (our host Daisy is a sucker for sparkle and stickers).  What is most important for them is that your vision board evokes a feeling. The more a vision board focuses on how you want to feel, the more it will come to life.

Daisy & Gaby are holding their inaugural woman’s gathering to inspire and bring light to this new decade by hosting a 2020 Vision board workshop on Thursday, January 16.  For more details, visit Daisy’s instagram @ pocketfulofdaisy or Gaby’s @mindfulwisdomnow – they have limited space so if this podcast and creating a 2020 vision resonates with you; DM either of them, and take the first step in creating your vision!  Beverages and supplies included. $20 per person.

  • EP 032: Where there is SMOKE…there is Vaping (part 2) with guest Dr. Sara Dorison

This Girl brings back Dr. Sara Dorison, child neurologist, to give us an urgent update with regards to the vaping epidemic spreading life threatening illnesses and causing deaths.  Daisy asks practical questions to Dr. Dorison about what do you do when you find out your child is vaping?

Dr. Dorison, who specializes in pediatric neurology, states that parents should not be naïve about vaping but encourages them to get informed and be proactive. The e-cigarette was first presented as a “safe alternative” but that has clearly proved otherwise. Vaping is surging among American adolescents. According to one national survey, 3.6 million middle and high school students used e-cigarettes in 2018. Dr. Dorison shares astounding facts about the immediacy of the addiction due to its concentration; a juul vaping pod is equivalent to smoking a cigarette box (more than 20 cigarettes)– the high levels of concentrated nicotine makes it highly addictive.

Dr. Dorison stresses the importance of keeping your teens safe by having real honest and candid conversations with your kids as early as middle school. Yes! since they are 12 they know about vaping, it is all over the schools and the news. Dr. Dorison’s suggests to work on prevention, to test your kids for high levels of nicotine, and explain to them the real facts and concerns about vaping and addiction.  She reminds us "good kids are making bad decisions!"  Keep in mind that the vaping industry is not being regulated and the rising cases of serious illnesses is bring this industry into serious investigations.  For more information, you can also tune in to Episode 07 - part 1 on the Vaping Epidemic.
